use of cyclogest in early pregnancy

hi

I need a bit of advice, I’m 7 weeks pregnant after one previous miscarriage and one ectopic pregnancy and very anxious, I asked my GP to prescribe me the Cyclogest, as I research that it might help prevent a miscarriage but I’m now seeing a lot of women use it only in IVF do you think it’s ok to use it if my pregnancy has happened naturally !

Congratulations first of all and also sorry for your losses 😔. Yes, it is ok to use it in natural pregnancy as it won't do any harm if it is a very low dose but you have to check your progesteron levels and speak with an OBGYN specialist. Take care 💕

thank you so much, she has given me 400mg twice a day, they haven’t checked my progesterone but my GP asked for advice of consultant gynae who specialises in re current miscarriage and he gave the go head

Great, that is a relief...may be just like a placebo effect on you but really this doesn't matter if the pregnancy progresses as it should 💕😘 I wish you easy 8 months ahead and all the best for you and your little bubba 🥰🤗

thank you so much for such a quick response from all of you it has put my mind to rest now, I have started it this morning. This pregnancy is kind of a miracle as I was told my only tube was blocked in January and I was referred for IVF waiting list ! 😃🥹 a month later I got pregnant naturally 🥰

NICE guidelines now include prescribing progesterone to women with natural pregnancy at risk of miscarriage who have had evidence of bleeding. So it’s definitely fine for natural pregnancy, not just IVF. The dose is about the same as for IVF miscarriageassociation.org.... xx

thank you for your reply, I have spoken to my GP and she asked advice and guidance from a consultant gynaecologist specialist in recurrent miscarriage, I haven’t been bleeding but I just thought as I had one miscarriage it might help starting it now! So I should start it it won’t be any harm right !

No it will be fine and you have been prescribed it by people who know what they are doing. Hopefully this will be just the job 😊 xx

Hey lovely! Just thought I’d share my story. After three recurrent early losses and just about to embark on the ivf journey… we fell pregnant again! I rang the clinic which we were with telling them but asking them not to cancel our appointment just yet and the consultant offered me cyclogest without little information really, hadn’t even had a viable pregnancy confirmed at that stage (which they say is protocol). Started taking them around 5 weeks and I’m now nearly 14 and we’ve never gotten this far before. I don’t know how much of that is down to progesterone but it’s the only thing that is different so I’m very grateful that the consultant offered it! It’s surprising how mundane inserting a pessary has become too 😂. I was so scared at the thought of it! Wishing you all the luck in the world xxx

aww congratulations you must be so happy and shocked!

Same thing for me after my ectopic pregnancy last year, I had investigations done and two test they did showed my only tube was blocked so finally in January I was told the only way to get pregnant was via IVF and I was referred ..,.., February I was a few days late and here I am pregnant 🥹🙏🏼🥰our bodies are so amazing and surprise us when we least expect it.

I wish you all the best, soon your have your beautiful baby in your arms 😘😘😘

Thank you 💗. Happy, shocked, scared, in disbelief and pretty much every other emotion you could possibly feel. I’m just still finding it hard dating to believe. I feel so bad for saying that and I should really be feeling lucky and excited but I’m still in self preservation mode and I’m not sure if that will ever go! Scans bring reassurance for the time I’m watching the screen and then as soon as I walk out it’s like I forget what I’ve seen. Wish my brain would give me s bloomin break 😂😂 xxx

I completely understand exactly the same for me, my next scan is next week to see the heartbeat and I’m so anxious

It’s such a horrible wait! I wish I was just really naive to it all. Wishing you lots of luck and I really hope everything goes ok x

I’ve had it with natural and ivf pregnancy due to recurrent loss. Guidelines are until week 16 from recurrent loss clinic x

Hi! I am 15 weeks pregnant from IVF and my clinic said there is no such thing as too much progesterone. I was on 4 cyclogest and crinone gel per day because my progesterone was on the low side. Very best of luck!

Hi, I’m so sorry for your losses. Pregnancy after loss is terrifying and I think it’s great they’ve prescribed cyclogest. I’m currently pregnant (naturally after years of IVF) and was prescribed cyclogest until 14 weeks due to 2 previous losses. I’m now 21 weeks and so far so good, so am happy I took it 🤞. Wishing you a healthy happy pregnancy xx

in reply toSolly-44

eeeek Solly!! 21 weeks!!! 🥰🥰

Congratulations 🥳💗. I’ve only got two weeks left of taking them and whilst I can’t wait to not take them, I’m also nervous about stopping! I’m really hoping my stomach will go back to a normal state, I’m sure the rather round belly I have is from progesterone and not my 14 week baby! I could be wrong mind 😂. Did you notice any differences from stopping it? Xxx

Thank you 💜 Congratulations to you too! I actually took them until 16 weeks because I had some spare at home, and was also really nervous about stopping. I noticed zero differences though and after a couple of days the fear goes away. Wishing you loads of luck! Xx

Hi congratulations on your pregnancy.

I have had 3 previous miscarriages and was prescribed cyclogest from the recurrent miscarriage clinic when I got my next positive test.

Well I fell pregnant naturally after 4 failed ivf cycles and now am 16 weeks and am weaning myself off cyclogest. I think it has helped so was happy to take it and so far so good with pregnancy!

Hope all goes well for you. All the best xx

I was prescribed cyclogest to follow on from lutigest. The IVF clinic had me on Lutigest until 12 weeks but as I had some bleeds early on, the hospital prescribed me cyclogest to 24 weeks. I'm 21 weeks now and still taking one pessary a day. I was told your body only absorbs what it needs so no harm in having them xx

Interestingly I just had an ectopic and have been told not to do any progesterone as it increases ectopic risk apparently…

Hey, so so sorry for your loss first of all. I hope you’re getting the love and support you need. I think that’s why if not started already at the beginning of a cycle that they say they need to confirm it’s a viable pregnancy before stating progesterone. I’m not sure about the science behind it causing it but I think if it the embryo has started to settle elsewhere then the progesterone helps and encourages it to stay out where it is? That’s my very unmedical knowledge of it? Xxx

Rainbowretrieval profile image
Rainbowretrieval in reply toKatiee1

Thanks That sounds about right, it won’t spontaneously abort itself if the progesterone is telling it not to. I think that’s why I want to see if my levels are ok on their own as they might not be and them telling me not to take it is to protect against an unviable pregnancy remaining in place. X
