Warning about Cetrotide?

Did anyone’s clinic warn them about the risk of anaphylaxis taking Cetrotide? I read the data sheet and it says the first dose should be given under close medical supervision due to the risk of life threatening anaphylaxis?! It’s not a small risk either (1/100 to 1/1000). No one has said anything about risks/side effects to me, just to take for 7 days (upcoming FET). I confess I’m a bit nervous about taking it!

Xx

A very serious allergic to this medication is rare Ask your clinic/nurse to explain what symptoms to be aware of -hope this puts your mind at ease

Look after yourself

In the data sheet it says systemic allergic reactions are ‘uncommon’ at 1/100 to 1/1000 although I appreciate life threatening ones will be on the lower end (not rare according to the DS though). I’m aware of the symptoms of anaphylaxis, I’m just surprised the clinic did not provide any warning, particularly as the DS says the first dose should be given under medical supervision. I will just do the first dose with husband at home and when GP surgery round the corner is open. Xx

Hi there I’ve taken cetrotide on each of my cycles I’ve done 8 in total and it’s been fine 😊 stay strong and good luck for your upcoming transfer hopefully this will be the one! 🥰 xx

I think there is a small risk of serious allergic reaction to most medications. If you are nervous about it, have an antihistamine to hand and someone with you when you do it, just in case. I have allergies (nothing serious or causing anaphylaxis, touch wood) and Certotide did cause small hives around the injection area but my clinic did warn me this is quite common and nothing serious to worry about. I used it without problems. Good luck!

Most medications it’s a very rare risk, except for a few like penicillin, but much higher with meds like Cetrotide as it’s a small peptide, making it very appealing to the immune system. I will take what precautions I can but it’s a horrid thought I would have taken it alone while looking after my 1yo had I not read the datasheet. I have a history of allergies and adverse drug reactions, which my clinic does know. It’s really remiss of them not to at least flag the datasheet. Xx

I was warned the first time I took it about the small risk of a serious allergic reaction, and then that it's relatively common to get a local reaction to it. They said I should have an adult with me the first time I took it (it also said this on my printed protocol) and to monitor my reaction for about 10mins after I think. I did get a mild skin reaction but only that first or first couple of uses and then I was on it for ages for that and another two rounds and all fine.

This is what it seems they should do! I’m a bit shocked they did not for me, especially as I have a history of both allergies and adverse medication reactions… Glad I read the datasheet as I would have been alone with the wee one the first time I took it otherwise 😬 Saw you were gearing up for another go too. Best of luck lovely xx

Hopefully you'll be absolutely fine but very lucky you're so on the ball and maybe read your clinic the riot act?! Mine did kind of scare me about it and insisted I didn't do it alone so I think they see it as a real and serious risk. Re another go, yes, had a transfer of the 3d embryo from my one and only retrieved egg and now in the 2ww (haven't missed this bit!) What stage are you up to?

Ooh exciting! I’m just waiting on my period to start then it’s all systems go. Bit nervous about having to use Cyclogest instead of Utrogestan as I bled badly with it before, but that was using rectally and will be doing vaginal with the same daily schedule as the Utrogestan. Gutted Utrogestan seems impossible to get hold of xx
