Bad reactions to cetrotide?

Hi,

Any bad reactions to cetrotide ladies? Just did my evening injections and noticed a massive red, lumpy patch where I injected cetrotide this morning (ie maybe 10cm x 5cm so pretty big!) It was really painful this morning but had to rush off to the clinic for a scan so didn’t really look. Am currently icing it at the mo.

Any similar experiences? Is this normal? Cetrotide and me don’t seem to be getting on so well!

Many thanks

Xx

I had a similar symptoms: red lump, very itchy, slightly painful on the day after.

Mine was a lot smaller though, maybe 1cmx1cm or max 2cm x 2cm, and it would be gone by the next dose.

Is yours better now?

Interesting. Thanks for the message. Was it the same every injection? Am thinking I need to inject really slowly and then really massage the area?! The icing has made it a lot less raised and angry so it’s not lumpy anymore but still red and patchy and the same size! I’ve been icing for over an hour now and I’m not going to have time to do this every morning!!

Yes, unfortunately it happened every time for me.

Injecting slowly sound good, but not too sure about massaging, as it may irritate the area further. But I’m not sure.

I really hope it won’t be as bad for you next time

If it is, maybe give a call to the clinic?

Yes good point re massaging. It works for the others but you’re right it might irritate further. I’m basically in my clinic every day at the mo (for one thing or another) so I’ll mention it to the nurse tomorrow afternoon. May just leave more time in the morning to ice before work. Thanks xx

Yes!! Cetrotide stung me like crazy and always left bumps and swelling. My clinic recommended that you leave the needle in for 10 seconds to make sure it's all in, it's if any seeps back out that's what causes the skin reaction apparently 🤷🏽‍♀️

Ah interesting. Fantastic advice thanks. Will try in the morning xx

Worth a try, I still found it quite itchy and stingy but leaving the needle in did help with swelling and redness 👍🏼

I’ve just finished cetrocide this morning, I too had a red rash around the injection area and a raised lump. I massaged the area afterwards and it helped with stinging. The stinging got better day by day and didn’t bother me to much as time went on. I didn’t experience any itching luckily, hope it gets better for you x

Thank you. Weirdly it was fine yesterday (first day) but not today. I got a massive bruise (which I’ve still got) with Gonal F on day 2 as well though and been fine since so I’m wondering if it’s just a day 2 thing!! Fingers crossed. Good to know massage helped you thanks xx

Happened to me every night with cetrotide. Nurses said it’s very common. Usually gone within a few hours xx

I do mine at 6am and it’s still really red and rashy now! Having iced it it’s not lumpy anymore which is something. The things we have to go through 🤦‍♀️x

Same for me. Completely normal as long as it goes down after an hour the nurses say. X

Hmm thanks. Mine is still very much there and the same size. I do have a bruise still from a Gonal F jab last Tuesday though. Think will ask nurses today. Thanks xx

My nurses told me without me asking that the most common side effect is itching and a rash where you’ve injected xx

Yes I think it is common x

Pretty normal. When i was on it, it would burn after injection and have a red bumpy rash for a bit. The more i had the less time the rash lasted. Also it was worse on 1 side than the other.

Thanks. It’s good to know that it might go down! This morning’s isn’t too bad but yesterday’s is still really bad and sore. Fun times! X

So thanks for your advice all. I did this morning’s injection super, super slowly. Then massaged it a bit and then iced it. So far, it’s been absolutely fine. Got the lovely nurse to look at yesterday’s big red rash and she said that is was unusual not to have gone down by now and that we would keep an eye on it. May have to change medication if I have it again given it’s severity. Hopefully an extreme one off reaction. Xx
