Got the phonecall this week that we will be starting our NHS funded round of ICSI when my cycle starts next week.... Eek!
Due to my age and adenomyosis they are putting me on long protocol so egg collection will be towards end April. We are having ICSI due to low sperm count.
I have read some conflicting views on here about long protocol and whether this always gives the best results but not sure if there are other underlying issues that might be effecting results too. My AMH is now 10.6 (11.1pmol last August) and I had approx 18 follicles when I had my initial scan last month.
Any experience, comments and opinions greatly appreciated
Thank you xx

Hi 38andtrying. Probably trying to shrink your lining becaususe of the adenomyosis levelling it off before stimulating you and getting a decent lining for embryo transfer. Good luck. Diane
Thank you Diane 🙏I've also read some comments about long protocol not necessarily creating the best eggs, but I know for the adenomyosis it's the right thing to do for sure.
Hi, I have done long protocol with ICSI and have adenomyosis but I was 42 when we started. I thought I’d share what’s happened for me so far, especially as they are going a different route for my next. I know we all have our individual variables, but I hope it’s useful info. I responded quite differently each time. First round was not so good, but had an early blast to do fresh transfer on day 5. Second round I had 4 blastocysts to freeze, did 2 double frozen transfers and had one neg and one miscarriage at 3 months. They lowered my drugs a bit for round 3( new consultant who said there was no gain in the extra) and I put back 2 fresh on day 2 but ended in negative. They’re now trying me on short protocol with much lower drugs and ICSI for my fourth and final round ( so very different!!). My consultant doesn’t seem too bothered by the adenomyosis as i’ve had implantation I think… but not sure. I am starting a short protocol with much lower drugs near end of March so can let you know how that compares. So many variables, so much guess work…. It’s tough! Wishing loads of luck 🍀. Hope it works for you in this round. I am feeling hopeful at the mo, so we shall see. Baby dust 💫 x
Thanks so much for the insight, and wishing you the best of luck for the end of March 🤞🏼You're right there are so many variables for each of us, it's defo not a one size fits all!
Were on our first and only NHS funded cycle... Hoping the protocol works for us, but am also a realist and know it's not a guarantee
