Prednisolone Q

Alwaysbelieving profile image

wheels are in motion for getting my NK cells tested and just wondered how much approximately we would be looking at paying for prednisolone if I needed it? How much do you get? I’m under the impression the medication is not provided on the NHS, is this right? Xx

The test is not usually available on the NHS - some fertility/recurrent miscarriage clinic do offer the test but they have to pay for it so would imagine you would have to pay for treatment Check with your clinic what the cost of the treatment will be as it can vary from clinic to clinic

Take care

I had the blood test for NK cells done by my clinic , it came back high so was referred to the recurrent miscarriage unit, they did the blood tests again and I was prescribed prednisolone. This was all NHS

oh really was that recently? I’ve been encouraged to approach the recurrent miscarriage and repeat implantation failure clinic by my NHS funded clinic but will have to pay for it all.

I’ll check for certain but I think a year ago. I had a blood test with my clinic, when Nk cells were high they referred me to the recurrent miscarriage clinic. Had to wait 3-4 months for consultation . They put me on Hydroxychloroquine but 6 months later reviewed it and prescribed steroid.

Ahh so not too long ago, that’s good you got it through the NHS x

I take 10mg a day and have done since just before transfer. I start weaning off from 12 weeks. I can’t remember how much I pay exactly but it’s not too expensive- I have found Asda is the cheapest for all medication! I didn’t get the medication under the NHS unfortunately.

thank you for your reply, you’ve answered my next question as well as I did wonder about how long you take it for.

Hi Always, prednisone is relatively inexpensive in comparison to other meds - hopefully it won't be too much!

once I had Prednisolone prescribed by my clinic, I sent the prescription (along with Cyclogest and Clexane) to my GP and they issued the medications for me with the local pharmacy for a month for free as I have exception certificate due to my Thyroid issue all my meds by my Gp are free. The next month I asked for the same etc. they may ask for a letter from your clinic why you need the meds but that was not a problem for my clinic - they gave me a letter.

I pay £13 for a box which lasts me a week (I'm on a 20mg dose).
