looking for a bit of advice regarding FET

Hi everyone,

I had egg collection and failed fresh transfer in October after which I had a bleed. I ovulated around 14 days ago so expected my period today but no sign.

The clinic rang me out of the blue yesterday and said they could do a FET this month and to start estrogen the day my period starts. I’ve got myself in a bit of a tizz over this as my period is 2 days later than normal and I’m worried my hormones are all over from last month’s treatment. And when my period does come, I’ll immediately start supplementing more hormones!

Just wondering if anyone has done a frozen transfer the month after egg collection/ transfer and had a good outcome? I’m sure it’s just the PMS talking but I’m terrified of wasting an embryo. I also wasn’t expecting an FET until January so I’ve been a little caught off guard!

I can’t tell you that I’ve had success with frozen transfer straight after failed fresh cycle, but that my consultant thinks it fine and I did one in September (after fresh cycle in august, so zero break). Sadly that didn’t work so next cycle I went straight to a 2nd fresh transfer (October) . When that failed (chemical) we decided to have a month off and then the plan was to start meds on day 2 of this month’s period… so although it’s not been a success story for me on that count, it seems it is acceptable practice - if you feel ready to go there’s no reason you shouldn’t go for it.

In my case, I’ve been waiting and waiting for the period to come. Today should’ve been day 28 where I’d normally have a 25 day cycle. Today I did a pregnancy test and had the shock of my life when it was positive (with no fertility treatment this month). It’s maybe worth you checking if you haven’t already?

thank you for your reply, it’s reassuring to know that it’s standard practice elsewhere! I think I’m just hormonal and a bit overwhelmed at the thought of things not going right again.

Congratulations, that’s amazing news!! Unfortunately definitely not an option for me as in a same sex couple and therefore some questions would be asked 🤣🤣!

Ahhh well that’s one unlikely scenario fewer to worry about at least! 😉 it’s amazing all of things that your brain can come up with to panic about during these fertility journeys. I don’t know how anyone stays sane through it all.

But yes, bottom line, your hormones are always fluctuating as you move from one stage of your cycle to the next. The last round of treatment should have no bearing on what comes next. Best of luck and I hope you don’t have to wait too much longer before your period comes and you can crack on! X

as long as you’ve had a bleed after your fresh it should be fine and is the usual process at my clinic too (even if periods a little messed up) but you can absolutely wait until January if you don’t feel ready (mentally, physically, timing wise) sometimes a wee break is good if you need it 🤗 xx

Thanks for your reply, I think it was PMS sending me a bit OTT as my period arrived yesterday afternoon 🤣 I’ve given my head a wobble and thinking positively - estrogen started this morning so hoping things go smoothly from here!

Yes, I had my first FET the month after collection and a fresh transfer that ended in a chemical. That FET worked so hope this gives you some reassurance. Best of luck ☘️
