Positive covid test day 1 of stimulation

Hey, I’m new here. Having a pretty rough day and need to know I’m not alone. I was supposed to start injections for EC today and first ivf round after lots of delays. My period finally came (late) yesterday and excitedly rang the clinic to book my first scan. I was feeling a bit headachy and I’m not sure why but I did a covid test. It was positive. I’ve been so careful recently! In a panic I immediately rang the clinic and they said I wasn’t to start the drugs and to call back on my day 1 in January!

I’ve spent the last 24 hours beside myself. I’m 40 and I’ve waited so long for this. It’s my 3rd time with covid and apart from a headache I feel fine. I think I may have had it all week as I did another test today the line is much fainter than yesterday. I want to call the clinic to see if they will change their mind but it’s Sunday and emergency only. I have 5 days until I have to have my first scan and I’m sure I’ll be negative by then. Do you think I’m giving myself false hope they may change their mind and let me go ahead? I know it’s probably better to know but I wish I hadn’t done the test.

I think to give yourself the best chances, you need to wait until you are completely clear of covid. Even if the clinic were willing to change their advice, which I don't think they will, you run the risk of having poorer quality eggs due to the covid virus. I know it's massively frustrating and disappointing but I would try and accept what they've said xx

Thanks xx you’re probably right. I think I just need to accept it and focus on being in the best health for January xx

Oh no I'm sorry to hear this 🥺 It's so awful when you're geared up to get going and something throws a spanner in the works. I tested positive for covid in June and it meant I had to cancel my FET planner for the next day 🙄 Even worse, I'd spent the past 3 weeks living like a monk and injecting myself, all in prep for something that wasn't to be. Its super annoying, especially this time of year I think, when the clinics' Christmas closures mean extra scheduling limitations and even more delays. I think we all secretly want to have a chance at Christmas 💕 But try to think of it this way, you've waited so long and each roll of the dice is SO precious- you want to make sure your body is at its best (I was worried about doing a transfer with my body fighting off a virus - immune response is such a key part of getting pregnant, and you wouldn't want your body's immune system in overdrive?). Ring and ask them by all means, if you want to, but try not to be too disappointed if it's a no. You might have a better chance when you're fully fit xxx

That must have been so tough! At least I’ve avoided all the hormones for nothing. I’m pretty sure it’ll be a no from the clinic and I think I’ve talked myself round to delaying being the best choice but I’m gutted. You’re right about each roll of the dice being so precious. I definitely don’t feel fully fit right now. All the uncertainty in this process is so hard to sit with, and I’ve barely started it! Xxx

I’m so sorry to hear that. I know exactly how you feel as the same thing happened to me inthe summer. I got covid a day after I had started stims and the cycle had tobecancelled. I was very upset but we don’t know enough about covid to carry on. Try not to worry about it too much knowing that January is around the corner and it means you have that little extra time to prep your body :)

My clinic son't treat you for three months if you/partner have had covid. They say it can impsct sperm and egg quality. However for people going through treatment this is not what they want to hear as time is often against us. All the best of luck xx

I’m so sorry for you, this is so upsetting when you are so close . Very frustrating .

But I personally would not want to do it. It could be fine but if it didn’t work you might blame yourself for not waiting and all the “what if”s.

Hope you feel better soon xx

I understand how horrible it is to have a cycle cancelled like this after all the emotional energy you have put into it - I had one cancelled for other reasons and it was the worst - but studies have shown that the effect of COVID on IVF is a reduction in top quality embryos and advised to wait 3 months so hopefully you can console yourself with the fact that you want to do this when you are in the best possible physical condition to do this and want as many top quality embryos as you should get. I will see if I can dig out that medical study for you and post it here. I hope you feel better soon.
