FET cancelled due to thin lining and delayed bleed

Hi,

Has anyone been in a similar situation?

Following ICSI we couldn’t transfer due to thin lining. However we were lucky to get some embryos to freeze.

We tried our first medicated FET (started 6mg Progynova, increased to 8mg day 13) unfortunately it was cancelled due to lining still not thickening. I stopped taking the Progynova (oestrogen) on day 21 and was told I would get my bleed and we would try again on a higher dosage & patches.

My bleed is normally very regular 25 days, however I have still not had a bleed…now day 33 … has anyone else had this delay in bleed after this medication?

Also any recommendations on how to increase lining, I’m trying all the supplements Vit e, raspberry leaf tea, high protien, only 1 coffee a day, acupuncture, exercise but not intense, etc…any other ideas?

many thanks, this process is tough…thinking of you all. x

Hi my fet got cancelled in 1st week of Oct as the oestrogen I was put on didn't suit me well and then had to wait for the period to show which took six weeks to come and finally I am scheduled to have fet tomorrow 🤞 for me it was the drug which cancelled my transfer so I think it totally depends on an individual how the body reacts.

Progynova does gets the period to come little late,I was given progesterone for few days and was told after stopping it I will get my bleed which did happen luckily so you might wana have and check with your clinic for this.

For lining there is no such sure thing but you can try having pomegranate and beets in your diet with a little movement after few days of transfer while resting you can move a little.

Xx

thanks, I’ll try contact my clinic tomorrow to see. I didn’t have any progesterone at all this cycle as when the lining didn’t show any signs of thickening they just told me to stop taking the oestrogen and wait for bleed to start again. Good luck for your transfer! x

Hello lovely,

I am sorry to hear this. I have had a few FET cycles cancelled. My body didn’t seem to react well to oestrogen. My lining was too thin and they kept increasing my oestrogen medication more and more (I tried pills orally and vaginally, patches and gel!) , which caused terrible issues with my endometriosis. In the end, my successful transfer was on a natural (modified) cycle and my lining was better than it had ever been on medicated cycles. I am not sure if a natural FET is something that you could do?

I also had delays in bleed after medication…

It looks like you are doing loads to try to improve your lining! Acupuncture really worked for me too. This journey is very tough! Wishing you lots of luck xxx

Thanks so much for your message, although emotional it really helped. Looks like the same here, not sure my body is reacting to the oestrogen but I’ll give anything a try and keep my fingers crossed. I think the plan is a natural cycle if heavier medicated doesn’t create the thicker lining.

Thanks again for the message and roll on this bleed to give it another shot! x

Hi Cricril, I totally feel your pain! I've had two frozen cycles cancelled due to crap lining, I think I just don't react well to the estrogen, either that or I need higher or more instant versions (i.e estrogen pessaries or patches which I have yet to try!) - I too was on progynova x4 times a day but it didn't do much. I think it works for some women but not for others, we're clearly the unlucky ones! I'm trying a natural FET next so hoping that helps before pumping myself with more estrogen.

The progynova is a b*stard though - after my first cancelled FET I too was frantically trying to figure out when the hell my period was going to re-start so I could try again, there's not much online and the clinic was vague. So what ended up happening to me (and what has happened recently with my 2nd cancelled FET) is that my body just re-sets and the cycle starts again either the next day or a couple of days after I stopped my meds but with no bleed at the beginning like usual. I had this confirmed by ultrasound the first time as I was really worried where it was. I went to my clinic 3 -4 weeks after I stopped the meds and they confirmed I had already ovulated and I was in the 2nd half of my cycle so it would arrive any day (and if it didn't they would give me drugs to bring it on), then sure enough it arrived 3 days later. My cycles aren't always regular but they range anywhere from 28-33 days and sure enough if you count back from when I stopped the meds it was 33 days before my period technically came back (not from when my last period was).

This time round I wanted to be more in control so when I stopped my meds I started tracking ovulation around day 9 after stopping and got my peak on day 14 (which is earlier than usual for me, I usually ovulate around day 17) so at least now I can hopefully have a rough guesstimate of when my cycle will return rather than having to go into my clinic again like last time.

So when you say you are day 33 is that day 33 after stopping the meds or 33 days since your last period? If it's the first one I would count from say the day after you stopped your meds and see what day you would be on. If you think you'd be in the later part of your cycle maybe contact your clinic to say you are concerned and that you'd like an ultrasound to see if they can determine where you are in your cycle. They can always give you drugs to bring it on if the ultrasound isn't clear etc.

Anyways, that's my advice/experience (sorry it's not what to do as I've never been able to find something specific to bring on my period), it totally sucks getting a cycle cancelled though so sending lots of love to you. All you want to do is start again straight away!! That's the trouble with getting it cancelled when only in the estrogen part of the cycle - at least the others that got to progestrone will get bleeds a few days after stopping that but with estrogen it's a different and longer wait.

Hi, Thanks for the message. Yes I am 11 days post when period originally expected and 15 days post stopping meds (usual 24/25 day cycle). So hopefully it’s just because the oestrogen meds and I have essentially missed a period and it will come in 10days (annoyance to that is the clinic will then be on Xmas close period) so won’t be able to start until NY…there is always something 😂…if you don’t laugh you’ll cry 🤪!

Do you tend to have ‘normal periods’, I tend to be very light (spotting) so worried this may be a challenge increasing this lining.

Good luck with the natural FET, hoping it goes well for you x

Ahhhh right, I bet your period will come in 10 ish days then! There's also a chance the drugs might cause a delay etc but you should have something by then. Oh yeah the Christmas closure is so annoying isn't it. Obviously I want all the fab docs and nurses to have a break as they deserve it but it doesn't help the anxiety around waiting! I might be in the same boat too dependant on when mine returns but at least things can get moving in the new year.

Hmm it could be a reason your lining is thinner, have you discussed it with your clinic? Mine aren't super heavy for 5 days or anything, only heavy for one really then light on day 2 then pretty much gone by day 3. I was worried about that but when I described my periods to my clinic they didn't seem overly worried!

Thanks so much, hope yours comes back in 10 days so at least you know where you are!! x
