Thin Uterine Lining - 3 FETs cancelled

Hi - I just stumbled upon this community and am amazed by the discussions. I have had 3 FET cycles cancelled due to thin uterine lining. It never seems to cross 6.5 mm. I am on a 16mg dose of progynova. Recently started with raspberry tea , nuts, avocado, walking etc. Any other tips that can help me out ?

I am really in a negative zone at the moment.

Hi VG. Sorry for your frustration. There were a few posts here re lining. I believe Vit e is often recommended. Do some research in to that x x

Vitamin E and L-arginine improve blood flow to the endometrium (supported by Doppler studies). I believe the effective dose used alone is 400-800iu per day (don’t use long term at this dose) and 3g L-arginine per day but you could probably use less in combination. Vitamin e at least should not be used if on blood thinners or any other known coagulopathy/medicines altering coagulation including aspirin. There are also yoga poses that may be able to help with blood flow (look up bettina rae on youtube, she has a quick easy one on uterine blood flow) as well as abdominal massage and acupuncture. Xx

Thank you for the reply. Just started the yoga video also. Keeping fingers crossed :)

I was prescribed viagra (to insert vaginally) and it worked for me - my lining jumped up to 10mm x

I had a bit of a nightmare with my lining. We eventually made it over the 7mm but with a struggle. The things that have helped me are.....using both patches and oral progynova as meds. I was also asked to go on aspirin to help improve blood flow to the uterus, its a small dose daily of 75mg. I was also taking vitamin E and more recently the raspberry leaf tea (minimum of 2 cups per day) and also the raspberry leaf tea tablets from day 1 of my period. I was initially on 16mg of progynova at one point as my clinic in the first instance just stepped my meds up which didn't work for me and in the end on my best lining ever I was only on 8mg, plus patches every 2nd day moving to every day from around day 9 of meds and then upped my progynova to 10mg, adding one vaginally. I know the raspberry leaf tea and supplements sound ridiculous but I truly believe these helped me.....Im now 26wks pregnant with twins. Good luck.xx

Hi cinders great news, so excited for your twins. Your account was one I always looked to when I started my journey 3 years ago. I’ve taken a well needed break & starting again this year. Just wondered where you got your patches from as I think this may help. I’ve been doing caster oil & hot water bottles(read this helps somewhere) & loads of supplement 👍🏼 x

Awww thanks Gemz! The theory behind it was to try and get estrogen into my body as many different ways as possible. I had to get my patches prescribed. I personally think the raspberry leaf tea and raspberry leaf tea supplements made a huge difference for me so add these in if you can....sounds daft that this can make a difference but Im sure it did. Good luck.xx

Thank you, yes I have the same problem with lining, I used the last of my Clomid last month as it was going out of date & now my period is so light. So this month I’m doing letrozole & booked follicle tracking. As Clomid thins my lining, (just thought I’d give it one last try) wish I never now.

Letrozole is meant to not meant to have the same effect on your lining so anything else I can do I will.

Just ordered the raspberry supplements now & will go on the hunt for the tea today. Did you take it until ovulation?

Once I’ve done follicle tracking on letrozole for 3 months I should be then in a financial situation to do ivf if it don’t work xx

I take it from day 1 of my cycle so it helps to build the lining up as it would in your natural cycle. Its definitely worth a shot and made a bit difference for me, I thought it was a bit of an old wives tale but was willing to try anything! Hope it helps you.xx

Hello, So sorry that you are experiencing this, I know that feeling so well as I had 4 cycles cancelled.

I would agree with what the other ladies have said in terms of vitamin E, raspberry leaf tea and patches. I was only able to get to 6.8 on this cycle but that was enough and I’m currently awaiting my 12 week scan. Please don’t give up!!

The other thing that I think has helped me is stopping all forms of high impact exercise and putting on a bit of weight. Not huge amounts but I really think it helped. I struggled with the idea at the time but I do think it helped.

I struggled with thin lining for 2 years but there is light at the end of the tunnel! I have everything crossed for you xxx

Hi Pebbles, congrats on the 10 weeks scan, that’s a massive reassurance so far. I wanted to ask what made you think to stop high impact exercise for your lining? I’m doing an FET and I’ve been doing some while waiting for my lining check to begin progesterone, as I figured that I would take it easy after the transfer. Did you just stop at beginning of cycle?

Pebbles345 profile image

Hello, I hope you’re doing ok.

I was told by my consultant that exercise was likely to be having an impact my lining but I was running a few times a week and cycling quite a bit. He explained that exercise can impact on the levels of sex binding globulins which was making it difficult for the estrogen to work. I had to give up all exercise (apart from walking) for about a year. I put on about 7lbs . I also had patches from day one.

It seemed to make a difference for me but I also know that the lining is such a tricky thing that it might not have been anything to do with this!

I really wish you luck, 6.5 is a lot better than I ever used to get so I feel confident for you!xxx

Hi, have a look at the website foodsforfertility.comIt has lots of information regarding foods to avoid and eat at all stages. Pomegranate juice was a favourite and fresh too.My daughter also went for acupuncture to improve circulation and was also told to keep her feet warm at all times as this affects blood flow. Two pairs of socks now with this weather !!!

She stopped caffeine and artificial sweetener around 8 months ago in preparation. Also started Omega 3 along with everything else. Her lining was 8.5 at first follicle scan. Currently 5 weeks pregnant after fresh 5day blastocyst transfer.

Back in July she had only 2 eggs and both failed to fertise. After following this advice we are where we are today ..... and with 3 5day blastocysts in the freezer.

I really wish all the luck in the world to you ......

It’s such a tough one and I think more common than people realise. The suggestions the ladies have made are all good ones and it sounds like you’re doing most of it. Have you explored a natural cycle? I know lots of clinics don’t like it as it’s harder to schedule. I had a good response to my fresh transfer so we agreed with the Consultant to give it a go. I was reluctant as there is so much dependency on drugs in IVF I couldn’t understand how it would work. But it did! I got to where the clinic needed me to be which was between 7&8mm with a good triple lining and I’m now 22 weeks pregnant. Lots of people are resistant to artificial estrogen, which I believe I was, so even with really high doses it made no difference. One to look into and discuss with your clinic? Good luck! xx

I was not even aware of a natural cycle till I read your post. I will definitely consider this with my clinic...All the best for your beautiful journey :)

Hi, I posted about this last month, and got some really helpful responses (if you go to my profile you can see the thread). I previously had 2 cycles transferred because of a thin lining. On the third cycle, even when the clinic increased my estrogen dose with Progynova, estrogen patches and Clexane (blood thinners), I still only got to 6.3mm. I was also drinking raspberry leaf tea. However, my clinic said that what was more important was for the lining to be triliminar, which it was so we decided to go ahead. During the 5 days before the transfer, with the added progesterone, my lining increased to 8.1 and we transferred 2 frozen embryos. I am now 6 weeks pregnant. So maybe just go for it on a thinner lining and see what happens?

I also did a vaginal steam and meditation the night before my transfer and for me, I think that was the gamechanger, but that is not rooted in any western medical science, but also not harmful and worth a try.

I will read about both these things as well. Meditation is definitely a game changer , just brings about so much positive vibes..All the best to you for the wonderful journey ahead !!

Hi VG2021, I forgot to mention that I got the herbs for steaming from an Arvigo therapy practitioner. She also did not some abdominal massages to help my blood flow (pre lockdown though). If you would like to know more, I can inbox you her details if you are in the London area, though there are many all over the UK.
