Hi All

Hope everyone is doing ok no matter where you are with things, its Friday which is a tiny ray of sunshine!

I have a query about Lentogest, I am on it for the first time, into my backside.. the nurse said to draw back a little once you have put the needle in but to be honest I am struggling to do that because I have a 2ml syringe and I am finding the plunger is really wobbly being near the end so I am struggling with stability in the injection site etc. So long story short I haven't been pulling back.

Anyway second injection today and as soon as I took the syringe out a big spurt of blood came out and went all over the bathroom floor! it didn't bleed really after that so I am guessing maybe it was a load of meds mixed with a little blood but now I have a lump under the injection site and just wondered if that was normal? I am on blood thinners and aspiring so guess I am bleeding more easily

Just checking this isn't curtains for me haha as my other half is away so home alone!

Thanks xx

Hi Daisy. Injecting in to the glute is very difficult and can be painful. I would run the spurt of blood past your clinic. I assume then this is an intra muscular injection...if that's the case, if this were me I would be looking to inject into the thigh so that I could see it better. Its really hard injecting into the glute as you can't see it properly. You may find you have more stability and control over the injection if you can see it. Then when your other half comes home have him do it and move back to the glute. Check this over with your clinic but when I was taking intra muscular injections I used the glute and also the thigh xx

Thanks so much! I have a lot more fat on my bottom so was thinking it would be less painful than my thigh? But makes sense that you can see a lot more. Might give my other half one go at it and if he is a nightmare I will switch to my thigh! I have injected for the past 7 or 8 years so I am so irritated that I can't do this one very well! haha! Hope you are doing ok despite everything and have a nice weekend planned xx

Thanks lovely. Am surviving.

To be honest I found the glute and thigh equally as painful as each other but actually overall less painful than I anticipated! Good luck with whatever you decide to do Xx

Hey there I’ve not heard of lentogest but I was on prontogest so presuming similar??! It won’t be curtains for you after one injection 😘 but I would suggest it would be good to find a way to pull back to check you’re not injecting into a blood vessel. This is not ideal! This happened to me a few times and I got blood in the needle as I pulled back so you need to find a new injection site. Perhaps speak to your nurses to see if they can help? Maybe look at some tutorials online if there are some? Get bigger needles if poss?

Lumps are really common under the injection site (whether you’ve hit a vessel or not so whilst really uncomfortable, nothing to worry tooo much about) Putting ice on the injection site before injecting helps..Also move about after injecting and massage the area.

Good luck. You can do this xx

Thanks lovely! I don't know why I am having such issues but I am finding the plunger is really wobbly as its right at the end of the syringe. Its not like I haven't injected myself a few thousand times over the last 7 or 8 years haha! Hope you and Evie are doing well? I have an Evie in my life too now (my niece).. such a gorgeous name xx

Yeah I reckon bigger needles will help then? Worth asking. I hear you. Injecting gets so second nature doesn’t it? 🤦‍♀️Ahhh congrats on your niece. Another little precious Evie 🥰. Good luck with the injections xx

Hi Daisy. Yes, being on blood thinners will obviously make you more vulnerable to bleeding, this is why the nurse probably told you to draw back. Could you get your husband/partner to do it for you? You could even inject into your leg if you feel it would be easier. Draw an imaginary cross on your thigh while sitting down, then inject into the upper right han side in your right let, or the upper left hand side in the left leg. Don't worry about loosing a tiny bit, as this often happens. Good luck! Diane

Thanks so much as always Diane! Hope you are well! My other half has been away this week but he is back tonight and next injection is Sunday so will definitely get him to do it, although the idea fills me with dread as suspect he will get too much pleasure from it :) Thanks again x

Hi Daisy. Awww you poor thing. Try melting an ice cube on the spot before injecting. helps to numb the area a little. Diane xx

Are you having one put back or two? Xx

in reply to AuroraXen

Only one because it’s DE and they won’t put two back! You? xx

Ah really, I didn't realise clinics only let you put one back if DE! Just one for me too (hopefully...) as we've only got one left 😬 Praying these are the lucky ones for both of us xx

I am amazed you can do it yourself - SO impressed. My partner did it and I screamed my head off….at him. He also drew loads of blood. Pretty traumatic. In the end, I swapped to progesterone stomach injections and also used numbing cream for the butt one. You are amazing for doing it! X

in reply to Seren0119

Bless you thanks! Sorry you had so much trauma! Hope round 6 is the lucky one for you x

I just gave up on injecting myself in my backside, I don't know how you do it. Although I never had any issue injecting myself in the belly, I just never managed to do the Lentogest injections and I asked my SO to step in. This does mean that I depend on him for injections, which is not great. In the odd case he won't be with me for an injection, I'll inject myself in my thigh. I also do tend to bleed with those injections.
