Miscarriage and next transfer

Hi all,

So had a scan on the 7th on what should have been 7.5 weeks, a sac was there but nothing else. My clinic abroad was never optimistic right from the beginning due to low first hcg (112).

Anyway the sonography said that since sac had grown they cannot diagnose as miscarriage until they scan again in a week but she also said its v unlikely anything would change. Given all this I stopped all medications the same day, started spotting next day with heavy bleeds the following day. I finally passed what I think is the sac on Sat. At a scan on Tuesday they've confirmed incomplete miscarriage and I'm waiting for it to happen naturally and if it doesn't in a week or so I'll go for medications.

My questions are:

1. I have stopped bleeding completely no clots but I know stuff is still I there. Can it be ill start again in couple of days?

2. I'm putting on weight massively and it's annoying because I'm eating sensibly and healthy but I have put on a put 3gs in 1 weeks. Is this normal?

3. What would you advise for next cycle- to have immediately or wait for body to recover from meds?

Any advice/suggestions much appreciated xx

Hi. Perhaps you need to have a scan to check whether anything has been left behind. It can take up to 3 cycles for your menstrual cycle to return back to what is right for you. Good luck! Diane

Scan may be the way to go. Thank you x

So sorry for your loss, its so awful, especially when you just have to keep waiting.

You could start bleeding again but I think in this situation more often than not you don't so might need a nudge with meds (or in my case I opted for surgery).

I think its really common to put on weight during IVF and it is often water retention, I am sure it will drop off again pretty quickly once you are off the meds.

Re trying again, I know I wanted to try as soon as possible but as Diane said my clinic said I had to wait 3 months, in the end that was probably a good idea mentally as well as physically.

Thinking of you xx

I dread the meds although it's just 2 tablets..have had them in the past and I was just throwing up all the time.. just as don't want to think of it and carry on..it doesn't stop ..does it?

I am just waiting for everything to get out and then speak to my clinic ..

Sometimes it does make me think if it wanted to be in there for so long why didn't it grow properly.. probably what im saying makes no sense..guess I'm just in denial mode..thank you for replying though xx

In my case, I had a scan after the bleeding to check all was out and the doctors suggested an D&C or a cuterage to clean the uterus in case there was anything left over. They did not expect a second bleed to happen to remove the remnants.

Also I waited for 3 months as well before starting again to let the body recoup and to emotionally accept what had happened. I also took the time to run some tests and was identified with Antiphospholipid syndrome which is an autoimmune problem causing recurrent miscarriages. This helped me to change my IVF process for the next time.

Fear the d&c would make the adenomyosis and endometriosis go mad..

Just unending fear and anxiety and constant what if questions..

Hope you are doing well xx

I did have a D&C with my first MMC. This one i did not bleed at all even after stopping the medicines. They did give me an option to do it with medicines, but after having a chat with my mom she felt the D&C would be like a endo scratch and i went for that. I did not have an immediate success, but then later it did all work out. Fingers crossed for which ever choice you make. 🤞🤞

I am doing well. Thanks, still accepting the fact that it is 8 weeks now .🤗😀

I’m so sorry to hear about your loss. I had a similar thing. I miscarried at 8 weeks. stopped meds and had withdrawal bleed but it didn’t feel particularly heavy. I had a scan and the EPU said the pregnancy had passed. I wasn’t convinced, anyway, clinic put me back into FET cycle after my next period (which again was a light bleed, assumed because it was so soon after miscarriage). Like you I’ve adenomyosis and it seemed fine until the scan right before the transfer. It had gone mad, and I also had white spots showing up in my lining that weren’t seen before. At the time the consultant didn’t know what it was. I had a hysteroscopy after the failed transfer to find out what it was. It was retained tissue from the miscarriage, freely floating around. My advice would be to make doubly sure everything has passed before. I feel like I wasted a transfer.
