Starting NHS funded round

Hi All,

So after loosing 2st 5lb I fibbed a little and said I was under the BMI threshold for NHS treatment in my CCG (I'm so close and going back to the GP to start over would have meant I 'd be over the age limit for my CCG) I've got a telephone consultation tomorrow, but I'm trying to work out when I'm going to have to get on the dreaded scales. I'm only 2lbs off where I need to be and everyone around me keeps telling me I'll be fine and I'll be the right weight on the day (I've been steadily loosing but its slow going)

Other half has suggested taking fat metabolisers but I'm nervous about doing anything extreme because I want my body to be in the best shape possible. Can anyone give me a rough time line of when I'm likely to have to face the scales? This is my last chance with my own eggs I don't want to mess it up. (I'm already beating myself up about having to delay treatment whilst I lost weight)

Hiya, well done on losing the weight. That's such a great achievement. I also had to lose weight (1st 6lbs) to meet the NHS criteria. I had 2 weigh-ins which happened each time we attended the nhs clinic prior to our referral to the fertility clinic. I haven't been weighed since (just as well!) They were very strict, but I'll give you a couple of tips... I am only 5ft so I made sure I stood up reeeeeeeally straight to make me a bit taller 😂 just a few cms does help the bmi! And wear your lightest outfit!I don't know how long you'll be waiting to go to the clinic after your consultation as we went through ours during covid restrictions so things were delayed. But you could ask when you're on the phone so you know how long you've got to lose a few more pounds x

Thank you, I've found it so stressful. I know I carry a lot of muscle and it really annoys me that they use BMI when it's not an accurate measure of health, but these are the hoops we must jump through!

Hi, defo agree with the other comments. Try and wear something very light, stand straight and do not eat or drink anything before your weigh in, an empty bladder is ideal! Good luck :)

Firstly your only 2lbs away you could wake up and find that gone tomorrow. Tell them you are under or the exact weight. That's what I did it will be a few weeks before a f2f appointment so don't panic. If you are 2lbs over when you do get to your appointment they will let you off as weight fluctuates they did for me and after my first weigh in I've never been weighed since. In fact on my second iui I was 7lb over the threshold and I was panicking but they never did weigh me again. Good luck xx

I also had to loose weight to be under the BMI for the NHS. I used Michael Mosley’s blood sugar diet which is low cals and low carbs but generally quite Mediterranean which is supposedly good for fertility treatment. I managed to loose 3 stone over a 5/6month period before initial treatment and then I used it to maintain the weight and make sure I was back down under the BMI for the start of each of my 3 cycles. I got weighed at every appointment I went to at the hospital prior to starting treatment but once I was actually referred to the assisted conception unit they booked you in for a day 14 app the month before you start treatment each cycle and that was the day you were weighed and had to be under the BMI. I actually went to the extreme of weighing clothes and seeing which were lightest but generally found I had been so focussed on making sure I had lost any lbs I’d put back on that when I went to the appointment I was actually well under. I would also know your height before you go. My first appointment the height pole was faulty and I was measured as being inches shorter than I knew I was so I insisted it was redone. Also I would agree with the make sure you stand tall when they take your height, and wear your shoes if possible, and make sure you do it at the first appointment as my height was only taken my first cycle and then all they took at subsequent cycles was my weight. Good luck…with 2lb to go I’m sure you’ll be absolutely fine. X

I think you'll be ok as from first consultation at fertility clinic to actual treatment is usually a few months anyway so as long as youre at right weight for start of treatment not first appt they probs wont mind.i got weighed at start, each dr consultation (not nurse appts) but then didnt weight me just as started stims etc. hope that reassures you, well done for losing weight and I really wouldn't suggest adding any fat loss/weight loss stuff into mix as you never know what's in it, what its going to do to you and you're doing it the healthiest way!
