Steroids help low responders ( success story)

Hello my beautiful warriors,

I’ve been on this forum for more than two years now, religiously reading and following everyone’s updates. Honestly, I was feeling down, depressed and without energy to even write a post or introduce myself. But, after having a successful 3rd round of IVF, I would really like to share, in my opinion, some important information.

I was diagnosed with high NK cells so I started to do some research related to steroids and fertility. This article was especially important for me academic.oup.com/humrep/art...

since I was a low responder to the max stimulation dose of meds ( my max number of eggs was 4 although my AMH was 1.3ng/ml which was ok for my age-39 years old).. my doctor agreed that we should follow the recommendation from this article so I took 2 tablets of 0.5 mg of dexamethasone each day during the stimulation in the third round. Just to be clear- dexamethasone is much stronger than prednisone so 0.5 mg of dexamethasone corresponds to 20mg of prednisone ( so this was quite strong dose of steroids).. I took it during the stimulation and 2WW. For the first time, from 4 eggs I got 2 high quality blastocysts, and one of them is my 6 weeks old son. After getting a BFP, my doctor decided to gradually reduce the steroids dose to 20mg of prednisone and I took it until 12 weeks ( due to high NK cells).. I also took intralipid infusions and think they had a positive impact too.. But somehow, I feel that this dexamethasone during stimulation improved quality of my eggs and of course helped with implantation when speaking of NK cells..In my opinion, thanks to steroids I became a mother.. And regarding the implantation issues due to high NK cells, I think steroids are crucial.. And for someone, maybe higher dosage is necessary ( although that should be always discussed with a doctor)...

I wish you lots of baby dust, BFPs and healthy pregnancies!! I’m here if you have any question, doubt, or simply a bad day..

Stay strong. 🍀

Love,

D.

Congratulations on your little boy 💙 And thank you for the article. I’ve just been discussing whether I should have NK testing with my clinic after 3 failed cycles so I’ll give it a read x

Thank you so much!!🥰 I think steroids did the trick - with NK cells and implantation issues, but also improved ovarian response during stimulation ( I was a low responder)...Good luck!!🍀 I’ll keep everything crossed for you❤️🥰
