Supplement Recommendation - missed miscarriage- Sensitive

Hey,

Sadly I had a miscarriage diagnosed yesterday at an 8 week scan. 7 week scan showed it being too small by 9 days so I didn’t have much hope for our scan yesterday. We have another round paid for which I’m guessing we won’t be able to start for a couple of months. I’ve read a lot of posts where specific supplements have been recommended to improve egg quality. If anyone could send me details and quantities that would be much appreciated as I want to start taking ASAP. I feel like I want to get prepared for the next round and throw everything I can at it. I did acupuncture for the last fet which really helped so will probably do this again too. I also have stage 4 endometriosis and only one working tube. I had surgery for this to prepare for IVF a year and a bit ago. I don’t think it has worsened luckily since starting IVF.

I also don’t eat gluten or dairy as it worsens my symptoms but I wondered if perhaps I need this to help with egg quality? I just wondered if anyone had any insight on this? Would love to go to a nutritionist but can’t really afford it at the moment. Feeling a bit lost today and exhausted!

Thinking of everyone on this difficult journey. Thanks for reading :) xxx

I'm so sorry to hear this. How awful for you 💔 I'm glad you have another round coming up, and I completely understand wanting to take action to do something to kind of take back a bit of control (because goodness knows, we don't often have much in all this) I take Coenzyme Q10, dose 600 per day, vegan omega 3, vitamin D, Vitamin E, ALA (alpha lipoic acid). I also take things like Royal Jelly capsules and bee propoIis, just in case they boost my general health! Not exactly sure which of those are specifically supposed to be improving egg quality (but CoEQ10 is one of the key ones typically mentioned). I also took DHEA properly (i.e. ever day) in the lead-up to my last cycle. Not sure any of this has helped me though, still no sign of a BFP 💔 xx

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I have been doing some research into DHEA and might ask my consultant before taking it as keep reading conflicting things. I will definitely try all the other things that you’ve recommended. I’m sorry that you haven’t had your BFP yet. Sending you lots of positive vibes on your journey, it’s so tough xxx

Thank you! Defo talk to your consultant if thinking about DHEA - its powerful stuff and needs to be taken with care xx😘

So sorry to read this, its so heartbreaking. Sorry for your loss.

Its so easy to obsess with supplements and for every one person they help I have seen one person they haven't. DHEA is a dubious one and really shouldn't be taken without consultants advice and blood tests before hand. I took Bio-Ubiquinol (which is CQ-10 but slightly different), a good all round conception vitamin, melatonin, extra vitamin D and fish oil with DHA.

I am not sure about gluten free / dairy and I guess you have to balance your health and wellbeing but I have read in various places that eggs do need fat, so things like full fat milk can be good for you. I hate full fat so drink skimmed but I did try and eat things with good healthy fats like avocados, nuts etc. I also ate a lot of eggs which ironically is supposed to be good too.

You normally have to wait 3 months after MC before you start your next round which is a great time period to try and improve your eggs. Heaps of hugs and luck xx

Thank you so much, it’s been a pretty gruelling journey so far but hoping for a more positive outcome for this next round. Thank you for the recommendations for the supplements - I’m going to order some. I’ve been taking a natural all round pregnancy supplement for over a year now so will add in those extra things. I will ask my consultant about the DHEA as a bit unsure about it. It seems to have helped a lot of people and some not. I guess it’s about getting the levels right and it being suitable for each individual. I think I will try and focus on my nutrition and any other supplements I’m missing. Thanks so much for taking the time to reply :) xxx

Hello hun, I saw a fertility nutritionist and she recommended cutting dairy and wheat/gluten right down, so it sounds like she'd be really happy with your diet 😊 Basically the diet she put me on was a high protein and vegetable/fruit one, alongside more specif recommendations around things like plenty of beetroot and some brazil nuts (just as examples). She wasn't worried about me eating fat. She also suggested low/no alcohol or caffeine, oh and I almost forgot she was very anti processed sugar. I wasn't perfect on the diet by any means (caffeine and sugar were my biggest weaknesses) but I did try hard and my next round after being on it for around 4 months was much more successful.

Nutritionist recommended Nutri-Advanced as a good brand for an all round fertility supplement, and Wild Nutrition for Omega 3.

I found the book 'it starts with the egg' helpful on which supplements to take for egg quality (the book is quite full on so I found I needed to take it with a 'pinch of salt', but did find the supplement advice really helpful).

Whether it was the diet and supplements it's hard to say, but I did eventually get pregnant with an embryo made in that first cycle after really focusing on diet/supplements (age 40 almost 41 at egg collection).

Good luck hun 😊

Thank you so much for the recommendations. That’s good to know about the dairy/gluten. I was so anxious once I was pregnant about whether i was eating the correct things. I mainly just cut out cow dairy and was having other cheese and eggs. Also lots of seafood and fresh fruit & veg. I have found a fairly local nutritionist that specialises in endo & fertility so I might try and get a one off appointment with her. I was actually taking the wild nutrition omega 3 last year. I think I will go back on it and a few other ones and make sure I stick to it. I did give it starts with the egg a listen on audiobook last year but I’ve just ordered a paperback copy. Thanks again for all the tips :) I’ll take a look at the nutri-advanced also. So glad you managed to get pregnant and hope all is going well :) xxx

It sounds like you have a really great diet already hun, not that we can't always be working on it, but you've clearly already worked really hard with it and it sounds like you've made loads of really good choices. My experience on this site is that the vast majority of people do get there, even if the journey is really tough, wishing you every success.

So sorry to hear this.. iv currently been taking inofolic alpha this helps with egg quality. I was taking this with folic acid, CQ10, vitamin D and pregnacare (i know the already has a few of the supplements already in but I still took it) the inofolic alpha was suggested by my consultant and id 100% recommend. We retrieved 46 eggs and and now we have 11 top grade embryos currently frozen. Hope this helps! best of luck with you next round. 🤍🙏

Thanks so much for replying and for your suggestions. I think I’m going to speak with a fertility nutritionist and ask her about all the suggestions and hopefully she will be able to tell me what to take and then I can stick to it. It’s great to see what has helped others and hopefully I can get the quality up for my eggs. I got two last round - the first didn’t work and the second has ended with a miscarriage. Not sure if it’s the eggs or something wrong with me. Hopefully next time will have more of a positive outcome. Wow that’s amazing to get 46 eggs, and wishing you all the luck in the world with your frozen embryos xxxx

Yes definitely speak with a specialist before u take any and they can recommend what’s best for you as what’s best for someone else may not be best for you! Best of luck though! Got everything crossed for u! 🙏🏼💫🤍🤞🏼
