Missed miscarriage / ERPC

Hello all,

Update since my last post.

Missed miscarriage beginning of July . Tried miscarrying naturally at home as advised by clinic. Passed most of it but unfortunately had a scan on Monday 30th August and still some left so the next day (I couldn’t wait any longer!) I had an ERPC. I have to do a pregnancy test at home to confirm a negative in 3 weeks and fingers crossed that’s it done.

Firstly I just wanted to say thank you so much to all of you who reached out with hugs of support and advice when I was going through it. It helped me so much and I’m very grateful. The clinic did not give a realistic expectation at all. You guys helped me so much and it got me through a very difficult and lonely time.

I know not everyone will agree because we all have different experiences. But for me personally , if I had know how painful, traumatic and long this was going to be I would have opted for the ERPC straight away. Especially as I’m 40 and time is not on my side. I know it’s different for everyone and different circumstances but I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending an ERPC. I can finally move on and plan. Not be stuck in that awful limbo that we do often are. Constantly waiting 🙄

The procedure itself was fine, I had general anaesthetic, some bleeding but only spotting today. Not in pain but it’s only been 24 hours so don’t want to jinx myself 🙈

Hoping I get my period in 4 weeks, not sure what everyone else's experience

I have my follow up appointment beginning of October. And I hope to have an idea when we can start the next round. I’d like to start ASAP but it all depends on how my lining has recovered and my period making an appearance.... does anyone know how soon you can try again after ERPC or D&C, think it’s the same thing isn’t it?

Advice and tips always welcome x

Thank you, it’s tough but it has been so dragged out I’m ready to move on an fresh start 1st sept 🤞🤞 the hope is I’ll be pregnant by my original due date. Hope all goes well with you 😊

Rol81 hi, I'm so sorry to hear what you've been through. I had a ERPC earlier this year and it took 5 weeks to get my period again and I started another round of ivf then too. Hope this helps. Take care xxxx 💜💞😘😘

Hi x I’m sorry you have been through this too. Life can be so cruel. That’s good to know you got a period 5 weeks later and started your next cycle after that . I hope it was successful 🤞

Thanks for replying x

It was awful, only got one blastocyst and not even strong enough to biopsy for testing. Yes my latest round I got 2 normal tested embryos (and 2 abnormal) so just shows how the rounds vary vastly 🤷🏼‍♀️ best of luck beautiful xxx

Oh I’m so sorry. I really think we can do everything within our control but it’s just down to luck sometimes. You never know round to round. But all we can do it just try our best . Big hug and thanks

Glad to hear you are getting better. I share your thoughts as I had a bad experience with a medicated miscarriage and decided for surgical management on a second miscarriage.

When is ok varies. Sooner anyone will say it’s ok for you to try is on the cycle following getting your period. Best

I'm so sorry for what you've been through and I hope you are doing okay.

I completely agree with your thoughts on going for an ERPC. I really felt like it gave me some control over the situation and comfort that there was some closure around what was happening to me. Plus the ability to move on to whatever the next step or stage might be. I think we all know that feeling of being in limbo very very well (at least there are other friendly faces in our waiting room!) so I think it helps to have something we can do to avoid that or exit it quicker. But I know other people prefer to pass it naturally, if possible, which is totally understandable.

I'm also keen to hear how other people dealt with moving on. I have my follow up appointment at the end of next week with my clinic and, in theory, I'm keen to go for a FET on my next cycle post ERPC (i.e. start FET meds when I start that next bleed, whenever that may be). But I'm not sure how realistic I'm being as for my previous FETs I downregulated beforehand. I'm happy to report back what they say if that's helpful!

Take care x
