I was due to start my IVF stimms today after being on zoladex for a month to “calm” my body down as I have endometriosis. Unfortunately a cyst on my right ovary was seen on the scan and after getting my estrogen results later today, I now need to have another zoladex injection in the hope it disappears over the coming weeks.
Has anyone ever had this happen before and if so, how long did it take for the cyst to disappear so you could restart the cycle?
Many thanks!

Hi! I’d be interested to hear what people have to say on this too. They found one on each ovary on my baseline scan. I’m getting rescanned next week. I was told by my consultant that if it’s grown he might have to operate, if no change or small he’d probably progress with ivf. Tbh I don’t think he thinks I’ve got a right lot of chance anyway so I think he’s ok taking a gamble. Good luck with your cycle!
Well I hope it’s good news for you next week - one things for sure with this process, you can’t plan anything and have to expect the unexpected! Good luck with yoir cycle also xx
Hi Both. I had a cyst on 2 cycles. They based lined it for 1-2 weeks to check it was stable and then continued. Obviously it looks like a folical later in the process but it didn’t change much
I had a cyst that was found in prep for my first fet cycle - it was large as they rushed me for blood tests to check it was not cancerous! That cycle was cancelled and I had to wait for it to disappear naturally before I was rescheduled. I was scanned about 6 weeks later and it had all gone!
Hi lovely, I too have endo and cysts in both ovaries and my cycle went ahead. I believe it does depend on the size but I believe the meds did help shrink it as removing them would have affected my AMH which was already low.I am happy to say even with endo and cysts I had my first baby last October so don’t give up hope xxx
Oh, wow, Jonesy84, congratulations! Your story gives me hope as I have 5cm endometrial cyst on my only working ovary and extremely low AMH and indeed, doctors decided that I have slightly more chances to go fresh round with cyst, instead removing it. I hope my story will follow your story ❤❤❤
I’m in exactly the same boat as you and definitely do not want anymore surgery to impact my AMH. That’s amazing - big congratulations! Your message gives me hope 🙏xx
I had a cycle postponed due to a cyst on my ovary. I had to take hormones to induce a bleed with the aim of “flushing” it out. I was told it’s not serious (they ran some blood tests to confirm) and most women get this type of cyst up to a few times a year and they go away naturally (it’s essentially just the ‘shell’ where the egg grows not dissolving with your period) and you would never normally know. However, it can be risky if you get pregnant and so they couldn’t treat me whilst I’ve got it so needed to flush it out. I think it can also raise your oestrogen levels which can impact IVF success. Mine fortunately disappeared after the induced bleed, so it only set me back one period cycle really, but I was told it could take up to 3 bleeds before it goes away. It’s a frustrating setback. Hoping yours disappears soon. All the best x
Oh that’s interesting. I’ve had two random bleeds that I thought we’re my period starting but last only a day or so so couldn’t be. I thought they may be due to the cysts…
They done blood tests and the estrogen level was high (although the cyst is only small) so knew it’s producing hormones so would impact the cycle hence taking another zoladex injection to hopefully shrink it which apparently is the normal process. I had no idea how common they were and without the scan would’ve had no idea I even had one! I’m praying it will just be one month.
Thanks for your advice x
I had a cyst before my treatment, the dr was happy to go ahead so long as it didn’t grow. Fortunately it disappeared on it’s on. My clinic said that cysts are common with most women but particularly so with those undergoing IVF because of the drugs. Wishing you all the best xx
Hiya. I don’t have endo but as i started cycle 3 late last year they found 3 cysts on my ovaries (probably result of an abandoned cycle the month before) and raised oestrogen levels so couldn’t start. I was given norethisterone to have a bleed and hopefully clear them - had rescan 2 weeks later and 2 had gone. I ended up moving onto long protocol / buserelin to try and clear the last one. It took that and another norethisterone bleed to finally clear it so probably 2 months in total. But I’ve just had egg collection after finally having a successful start in December! It was agonising going in for so many baselines and not being able to start so I feel your pain, but we have had a better round altogether that the last 2 so turns out a change in protocol also probably was good for us!x
So glad to hear that after a rocky start you had a better round. Although the wait is agonising I have to remember its for a better outcome and nature will take its course when it’s meant too. Good luck for your round 🙏🙏 x
Hi, I suffer from PCOS and severe endo. I think it depends on what type on cyst you have. I have had follicular, haemorrhagic and bilateral endometrioma cysts. I think some of them (and depending on their size and if they are affecting your hormones) may interfere with IVF. Just before I had IVF, I had bilateral endometrioma cysts (the biggest one measuring around 4 cm) and my cycle went ahead. My endometriomas decreased their size with Zoladex too! Good luck xx
Sorry to hear you have to deal with both PCOS and endometriosis - that must be tough. I had excision surgery at the end of 2019 so there’s no visible sign of endo being back however as we know, endo has a way of hiding itself so the zoladex is a precautionary measure to “calm” my body now just in case. For once this isn’t a endo related cyst so I should be happy but delays make it more frustrating! Thanks for your advice. I’m not sure if you’re still having treatment but if so, good luck 🙏 x
It is really great that the excision surgery worked so well for you! I had excision surgery too and although it was the best decision I could have ever made, my larger endometrioma grew back to pretty much the same size just 3 months after the surgery. However, the pain and bowel/bladder symptoms massively improved.
I know it is a setback to have a cyst delaying your IVF cycle but great news that your cyst is not endo related. My other non-endo cysts disappeared within one or two cycles. Good luck!! x
