Just had my baseline scan to start our FET and I have a cyst on my right ovary. Apparently if it’s not releasing hormones then we can carry on, if it is then we scrap this cycle and start next month. Argh!
Does anyone have experience of this? Were you able to continue?

So frustrating! But I've learned to not expect any cycle to go smoothly! They've taken bloods so they will test those for extra hormones. Apparently it's quite common and can often just be left. I'm guessing I'll be one of the unlucky ones though! xx
Sorry to hear that dear. I had the same thing during my first cycle . It was very frustrating for me . I just had to deal with the waiting because mine was producing hormones so I had to wait for another month . Just try to relax . I hope it works smoothly and successfully for you
Hi Hope, mine is producing hormones so have to wait - they've given me norethisterone to help flush it out - did you take anything to help or did it just go? xx
Ah sorry to hear that hun. I've had issues with cysts every cycle since the Dec 19/Jan20 miscarriage. Except for the very first one which was 8cm (which took a while to go!) they've always gone fairly quickly.
I've always found caster oil packs over lower tummy help to reduce mine. On both a fresh and a frozen we've had one and they monitored and once it was less than 2.4 cms we could continue (in the frozen we just changed it to a natural FET as it was too late to do a medicated one and on the fresh it soon went and didnt cause a delay).
Hoping yours goes soon and you can carry on as planned!
I can't actually recall whether they checked that. I know they said that was an option but to be honest they've taken blood so many times I can't remember if they did with the cyst or not. definitely try with the castor oil packs though as that's always helped mine xx
No worries. If you have any Qs re oil packs let me know. Yeah ok thanks hun. How are you (cyst aside)? I have an appt on Monday with the clinic you used to talk about it which feels exciting. Think we will likely go with them. Was there a long wait to get started on it? And if you're doing your FET elsewhere do you just give them the protocol you'll be on so you can do the same for the ERA? Xx
I'm all good thanks! Just so keen to get on with FET with our ERA info!! There always seems to be a delay. I don't think there are any waitlists with our clinic - we've always been able to start straight away for everything (except with hiccups like the cyst).
And yes you'd need to take the protocol with you when you have your next FET (if you need extra or less progesterone) as it needs to be exactly the same. xx
Hi, I had the same thing, I had to have an ovitrelle injection to give me a bleed which took 2 weeks to start and continue the down reg at the same time so it took an extra 3 weeks in total but then carried on as usual after that x
I had been down regging for 2 weeks for a donor egg cycle. They found it when I had the scan to check if I was ready to build up to transfer. I ended up with a FET instead of fresh because of the delay xx
Hi hun, what a pain to have a cyst this cycle! Don’t have any experience but just wanted to say I have my fingers crossed that it’s not releasing hormones and you get to go ahead this cycle - the wait can be so agonising sometimes xx
Aww thank you - I know it's so frustrating. The only constant in IVF is that it won't go to plan! Hope you are ok - have you got a new plan for your next steps? xx
How Frustrating! I had the exact same thing last cycle, it was not releasing hormones and we carried on with the cycle. If it ends up being “active” you’ll have to wait until it goes away. Good luck and fingers crossed for you xx
That's good to hear - thank you! Really hoping it's quiet and just stays that way! Although they did mention possible nothiserone tablets to shut it up if it's not too active. I guess we'll see tomorrow. Hope you're doing well! All going smoothly? xx
Yes, fingers crossed it’s quiet and you can carry on. Don’t google too much, just wait until they tell you. Worst case you have to wait and, as frustrating as it is, you want ultimate conditions for the transfer (after everything you’ve been through!). I’m doing good, thank you, coming up to 22 weeks!
Good advice - I am just going to wait with everything crossed. Yes exactly - we want everything to be right! eeeek that's great news! So pleased for you xx
Hi Millbanks, I think it depends what kind of cyst it is. I’ve got a cyst in each of my ovaries but they’re endometrial cysts, meaning that doc was happy for me to go ahead with the frozen transfer as I’ve had the cysts there since we first started back in November.
Hi Millbanks, oh that’s really annoying. I had baseline FET 2 days ago and had a 9mm follicle. I had to have bloods to make sure my oestrogen was not too high to start, so on the verge of cancellation too, luckily was ok. I really hope you get good news and we’re FET cycle buddies x
Hi lovelies - just had our update from the clinic and the damn cyst is producing hormones.... so this cycle has been scrapped and we'll start again in 2 weeks if it's cleared! I'll be on Norethisterone tablets to help clear it so fingers crossed! xx
It’s so annoying! I feel your pain. My 3rd cycle was cancelled because of a cyst found at my baseline scan. I was put on the pill, rescanned the following month and it had disappeared so 🤞 🤞🤞yours has gone soon and you can crack on. Not what you need! Xx
Hi MillbanksI have a cyst completely covering my left ovary and started my first cycle this week. It’s been watched for a long time and isn’t doing anything, so my consultant said it’s not worth the wait for it to be removed, apparently up to 2 years. He just said to be aware they won’t be going near it when they do the egg retrieval so will only take from the right.
hi hun, similar to another writer i have two small cysts on my left ovary but was allowed to continue as they were endometriosis cysts. If they are one of thoese, the sonograher can tell you should be able to go ahead providing below 4cm if they are a hormonal cyst aka a corpus luteum cyst which occasionally happens then it would be better to let this resolve before re starting next month, most of the time they disappear by next cycle and a very outside chance the following cycle. Best wishes x
