When to stop progesterone?

I have had a viable 8 week scan, and the clinic have given me the option of continuing with the progesterone until 12 weeks, taking it every other day or stopping it completely?

Advice would be helpful?!

Hi Laura295 ! Congratulations on your pregnancy and viability scan! That is great news! 🥰 I would go with your clinics advice, but if they have given you options, it suggest they feel any of them are good options? Perhaps ask them to guide you a bit better? That is what I would do. So I feel I can’t really advice you, but just to let you know what happened in our case;Unexplained infertility. First fresh transfer. We were so lucky to get a positive. I was on progesterone pessaries - took two on an evening. I got told at our viability scan at 7 weeks +1 day that I could stop taking them. I was so nervous as this was our first ever pregnancy - many years of trying and it had just never happened, so I asked if I could keep taking it a bit longer. I got told there was no need to continue it longer after a fresh transfer.. but as I had just over a week left of progesterone, they said why don’t you just take your packet out.. so I did. I therefore stopped it around 8 weeks.

I believe with frozen transfers the advice differs. But I would ask your clinic for more info and guidance so you can make an informed decision 🥰😇

Wishing you all the best and a happy and healthy pregnancy! 🧡

After my FET I was gradually weaning off them over 10-12 weeks but during that time I spotted and panicked and used them at the full dose again as it stopped the spotting. My midwives said it was common to spot and the placenta should be doing all the work (I think it should be from around 9 weeks) so I stopped entirely not long after. I've spotted/bled since but all the checks come back fine so the doctors said I could use them again if it makes me feel better not to have that happen as it couldn't hurt. So if you have options, you could reduce and see how you get on and if you then carry on for whatever reason, apparently it doesn't do any harm. But at the same time, the NICE advice is now to carry on progesterone (I think up to 16 weeks) if there are certain risks so I'd be tempted to try and get more guidance from your clinic. I had my progesterone levels checked after I came off the pessaries and they were fine so that's also something you could think about but not sure that's necessary.
