when to stop progesterone?

Hi ladies. Can anyone tell me when they were advised to stop progesterone after a BFP? Is it assumed that once you’re pregnant you no longer need to take it? Thank you xx

I was advised at 10 weeks to stop with my first pregnancy but as I have a history of losses, I now have to take it to 34 weeks.

Thanks ladies. The clinic told me to stop taking them when they run out which would be tomorrow but I think I’ll call them to check that’s correct as it seems in most cases people take progesterone until at least week 7.

You need to take it until the 12th week as after that the placenta will have kicked in and it won't be needed. Congratulations on your BFP.

Hey it depends if it was a fresh or frozen transfer, if frozen it depends on the clinic but ours has us on to week 12 (but said only really needed until week 8 but they like to be cautious). If fresh transfer they just tell you to stop after test day xx

Thanks Twiglet. It was fresh. It just feels so soon to be stopping. Going to phone today to double check xx

Yeah, they’ve said to stop after today but I have 7 pessaries left from a previous round so might do one a day for another week just to wean myself off them 🙈 I’m anxious about it too - don’t trust my body to get it right! xx

I was bleeding from before test date until 10 weeks from a subchorionic hematoma and that all stopped actually not long before I came off the progesterone and no nothing from coming off them thankfully xx

When I did my fresh transfer back in 2018 which resulted in my son, my clinic had me take it till 8 weeks. But with all the frozen cycles since then, they now advise take it to 12 weeks. I'd call your clinic and get some more just to play on the safe side. Congratulations 😊

Thank you. I phoned them to double check but they said that with a fresh transfer they advise you to stop when what they’ve given you runs out (which is enough to last until the day after test day/10 days post 5 day transfer). They said your body should take over from here. I am a bit anxious about it but best to do as they say I suppose. Though I do have one pack of 7 pessaries left from my 2nd round which are still in date. Maybe I could take a token one a day until they are used up too…? Xx

Firstly congratulations 🥳❤️ I stopped taking at 8 weeks this was a fresh cycle. I was so nervous about stopping but was advised your placenta kicks in and your body now knows your pregnant so automatically produces it anyway. I gave birth to a healthy beautiful IVF little boy . I believe it’s 8 weeks for fresh 12 for frozen or history of low progesterone or recurrent miscarriages. Wishing you a healthy happy pregnancy ❤️

Aww wow, congratulations! What a lovely outcome for you 🥰 My clinic seem to stop them earlier than most - guess I just need to try to trust what they advise, hard as that is. Funny how we all become our own medical experts through this process - I always feel I know best 🙈🙈🙈
