Buserelin-raised red spots

Hi all,

I've been injecting Buserelin for 18 days. After most of the injections I've had a bit of redness and itching but nothing major. After injecting last night, all of my puncture holes came up as raised red spots (see photo) and are still like it this evening.

I went for my baseline scan today and the nurse said it looks like a local reaction and to take an antihistamine. I take them every day anyway due to a dust allergy.

Should I be concerned? Has anyone else had this reaction? They're quite itchy and raised. I've tried cold compresses but they're not going down.

I've started Bemfola and Menopur as well this evening. So that's three injections in my belly every night, running out of space with all these spots!

Thanks in advance for any replies.

As long as it is a localised reaction, it is more of an annoyance then anything. If you start getting swelling of the face, lips, tongue etc then you do need to be concerned. Antihistamines should help

OK thanks. It's just strange that they all popped up after two weeks, there was nothing there at all three days ago. They got really itchy and swollen overnight.

I have this with buserelin, not super itchy but the dots tended to fade away as soon as I add in another type of medication. Weirdly. I have never questioned it so maybe just keep an eye on it!

Thanks for for reply. I added the news drugs last night and the spots are no better today but fingers crossed it calms down over next few days.

Hi ruth. Yes, I've seen this before. It's just a local reaction which will subside a few days after finishing the course. Try melting an ice cube on the spot for injection, and inject slowly, and remove the needle slowly. Good luck! Diane

Thank you Diane. I wouldn't mind so much but the itching is waking me up during the night and I'm so conscious not to scratch it.

DianeArnold can you please advise if I can put any itch relief cream or similar on these itchy spots?

Hi.. sorry just read this. Speak to GP but I’m sure Anthisan cream would do it, or even calamine cream. Diane

I had this on my FET cycle with Busrelin too, and the clinic told me to take normal over the counter allergy tablets (antihistamines - what you would take for hayfever). It took a few days but the spots and itching got better.
