Egg donor or gonal f again??

Had a consultation with the doctor on Monday after the failed egg collection. She advised me either to try a second cycle by starting with Menopur and Gonalf from day , egg collection after 37 hours. Or go donor egg option and the waiting time is 3-6 months . And the package given is very expensive- for small egg (5) quantities- £7,500 excluding medications and for bigger in -9 eggs, it is £9000 again excluding any consultation or medications. Needs some advice from you lovely ladies out there…. Which is the best route?

How many tries have you had? Have you got low amh. Personally I had to switch to d.e but I was older then you when I made the decision. I knew deep down it was the end for my o.e. Really depends on finances and what quality our your eggs but if you do switch to d.e I would consider abroad its much cheaper. If you want any info dm me. Xxx

I had only 1 try dear…

I think you have only had one round? Which if I remember you didn’t get to transfer sadly? To me saying go donor after one failed round is a massive statement and one that shouldn’t have been said without a load of reasons why - did she expand on it at all?

Unless she gave you a load of reasons I think it’s too early to give up after one round, the first round or two are sort of trial and error in a lot of cases as you work out how your body reacts to the medication, so giving up after one round unless she gave you specific reasons why seems rather drastic

Donor eggs is a massive decision both mentally and financially. It’s a route I am going down but only because two consultants gave me very clear reasons why. I am sorry if it’s just been offered up to you like a menu item without proper reasoning

Anyway if i were you I would be going again but definitely mixing things up, I got 3 eggs on my first round which was long protocol, second round we did short protocol and for 13!

Good luck x

Thank you Daisy for your advice. The letter given to me after the meeting- “ you have a poor ovarian reserve despite being on high doses. Although 3 follicles were found in your last scan, only 2 were collected’. There is risk of failed cycle and cancellations again.

It might be worth posting again and asking about poor ovarian reserve. I seem to remember that some clinics do natural/mild IVF where they focus on one really good quality egg using lower dose meds rather than max dose - often with good success. I am afraid I haven't tried it though so can't really advise sorry x

Hi

You have a lot to think about but I just want to share my experience of using donor eggs in case you decide to go down that route.

We went to Czech Republic for donor eggs. It costs around €5000 plus your medication which isn't much. You keep all the eggs your donor produces and guarantee 2x good quality blastocysts. Spain and Greece are also well known for donor IVF treatment.

I have twins now thanks to our wonderful donor and I don't think I could love them any more. They 110% feel like my babies. X

Hey, I am 38 and have low AMH. I’m currently just starting our 4th round of ICSI. I did a private cycle while waiting to get on the nhs list which got 3 eggs although none were viable. That clinic then recommended I do the same cycle again or consider donor eggs. Thankfully I was then able to move to the nhs who looked at what the private clinic had given me and bumped up all my drugs and 2nd cycle got 5 eggs and 1 day 5 blastocyst was transferred but I miscarried at 6 weeks. I did a 3rd cycle last year and got 2 eggs neither of which were viable again. This is our last nhs cycle but the consultant recommended we use it since we had had success (as far as getting eggs and getting pregnant is concerned) in round 2. My husband and I have made the decision that if this doesn’t work we will go to donor eggs next rather than continue trying something that doesn’t work. The nhs clinic we are with has a private side which has affiliations with clinics in Spain and it means if we need to go down that route we could get anonymous eggs but still have all the initial bloods and scans at the clinic we are now used to before having to go abroad for the actual treatment. The clinics in Spain I have looked at also guarantee a minimum of 10 donor eggs for similar prices to what you have seen. I think I would push for different/higher dose drugs and a second cycle before making an decision on going with donor eggs but either way I wish you luck!
