Anyone else feeling sick on multi vitamins???? 🥺🤢

I’m convinced my multi vitamin is making me have all day sickness 🙄 anyone else the same?

I’m currently on Pregnacare but think the iodine is not agreeing with me . I’ve changed when I take it and always with food but the all day sick is just not going. I’m sick sometimes shortly after I’ve swallowed them. ( once after this I took straight folic and a vitamin d tablet and I wasn’t sick at all the next day)

I’ve ordered a gummy version that don’t have iodine in them but they also don’t have iron so not sure they’re ok??? ( they have folic acid, vitamin d , zinc etc )

Any advice ????

I’ve tried that but the next day I can hardly get out of bed I feel so sick 😷

Oh no 😩 Maybe don’t take them, just take the folic acid and vitamin d? If you have a healthy diet you’ll be getting the nutrients you need. The folic is the main one xx

I just took folic acid and vitamin d as advised by the midwife, so I'd suggest that. They'll keep an eye on your iron levels anyway and give you more if you need it 😊 xx

I paused mine because the iron (on top of everything else) was making me crazy constipated. Like, might need to go to a&e soon constipated. I reckon if you have a good diet, you only need folic acid. Plenty of doctors both here in South East Asia and in London have told me so. Vit D at a stretch too. With all the gratitude in the world etc etc etc I'm hating every single fckn moment of the first trimester. The nausea, the sickness, the bloating, the gas, the constipation, the moods, the EXHAUSTION, the headaches. WTF! Pregnancy glow my ass!

Oh dear, you sound like you’ve gotten it rough! How far along are you? I think I’ve escaped lucky, which was freaking me out but the midwife said it may be the steroids masking symptoms or that I’m lucky! I feel nauseous here and there and my nose is so sensitive to smells, and I’m hungry a lot and for naughty food! The only thing I really have is the bloating and gas (far too windy 😂) but otherwise I think I may have gotten lucky (minus the OHSS and infection to begin with!!) xx

This kind of gas really is something else isn't it? Maybe because I'm literally so full of sh*t.. 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️ I envy you so much. I wish it were the only thing. I've had two naps today and I woke up at 9.45am this morning. My belly could EASILY pass for a 5 month pregnancy. It's all come off the rails tbh.. Don't know, maybe it's also because I'm doing this on my own so I have no adult around to look or act human for... I'm 9+3 weeks. And all I keep thinking about already is "Are we there yet???" in a loop. Send thoughts and prayers.

I also look a few months pregnant already, living in floaty dresses but I think that may be the OHSS! 🤷🏻‍♀️

And I’m tired, but I think that’s also more because I’m up in the night needing a wee every couple hours and I’m so bloated so when I move into an uncomfortable position, I’m awake!

But other than those, I just don’t really feel pregnant and I’m carrying twins so it does worry me!!

You’re nearly in the second trimester so hopefully things will ease for you and then you’ll get what they call the “glow!” - the gas is due to increased hormones I believe, not much to help with that I’m afraid!!! I was in bed the other evening and really need to trump, but I couldn’t be bothered getting up to go to the loo, so I leaned over to my husband who thought I was coming In for a cuddle and trumped 😂😂😂 my lady manners have gone out the window!!! Xx

Spatone is a really good iron supplement, you just add to orange juice and it’s easily absorbed and very gentle. Huge congratulations, I’ve only just logged in after a long time 😁 xx

When my morning sickness was at its worst I’d have all day nausea but the pregnacare was a fast track to vomiting. If you can manage folic and vitamin d those are the most important in the first trimester, then as things start to settle a bit further on in pregnancy you might be ok going back to the multivitamin. I think the other nutrients come into play more in later pregnancy so if you can’t tolerate them at the moment don’t beat yourself up about it. No use forcing the extra vitamins in if they’re only going to go straight down the toilet. Hope you feel better soon x

I’ve been taking Zita West pregnancy vitamins- they are pricey and you have to take 3 per day but I’ve never felt sick after them.

But they have iodine too 🥺

I couldn’t take mine without being violently sick, my midwife said try drinking them down with a glass of OJ cos that helps them absorb better, might be worth a shot x

Yeah I had thought it was the IVF meds only but when they stopped and all I was taking was the pregnacare I relapsed it was that too! I changed to taking it just before bed so I could go lie down but even then it was horrid so I ended up taking folic acid, iron and vitamin d separate and just not taking the multivitamin. The iron wasn’t agreeing with me though so moved to 3 times a week with that rather than every day. I had to up the iron in the last few weeks though as I was getting dizzy spells and had low reserves but at that point everything was bonkers anyway 😂

Baby was all healthy, I defo think keeping your food and water down and functioning is more important than getting all the vitamins in (except maybe folic acid). Hope that helps 🤗 good luck xx

I stopped pregnacare because the iron was making me constipated. I also read that their version of folic acid was not the best one. I read several testimonies about pregnacare making people sick. I am taking terranova prenatal and I am doing fine until now (16 weeks).

Are you actually pregnant or taking these vitamins for IVF? If it is the latter, you might want to consider discussing with your consultant taking Impryl instead. If it is the former, then my all day feeling sick was just from being pregnant and nothing to do with which tablets I took. It eventually went away a while after my ERPC for missed miscarriage but I am told it would likely have gone away by itself in the second trimester. Sucking chuppa chips lollies was the best relief I found and drinking ginger beer or ginger tea.

I am in my second trimester and still have morning sickness. Still throwing up once a day and yesterday it was twice! 🤢😫

Hoping it eases soon! Ice is my best friend at the mo. I will try ginger tea as I found the ginger beer too sweet for me.

You can make it yourself by buying a piece of root ginger, chopping a small bit up and putting those bits in boiling water in a mug - i found that worked best and that way you can decide how strong you want it and whether to sweeten it or not and if so how! All the best with it and congratulations on your pregnancy!

Pregnacare made me feel so sick and super bloated! My clinic said it’s super common, and advised just taking Boots own folic acid and vitamin D, plus an iron supplement (I take spatone Apple as it doesnt make you constipated!) xx

Yes!! I was so sick on pregnacare. It made me very unwell. My nutritionist said it’s because the ingredients aren’t great quality. I switched to the Biocare range and had no problems at all.

Hey there, don’t have any advice about Pregnacare but just want to say, I really feel your pain. I hope you find a way to manage it that meets your needs. I have had and still have really bad morning sickness but as I was taking the same multi vitamins all through IVF, with no nausea I am blaming it all on the pregnancy hormones. However just checked my multi vitamins and it does have iodine. Not sure what it means.

My nausea has not gone away, but learned to live with it and manage it with ice as this helps the metallic taste which worsens my nausea. I also chomp on ginger biscuits when it is really bad.

All the best 😘

I just know my mum is highly allergic to iodine and I react to iodine in old style plasters so it seems to make sense to me 🤯 my gp just asked me to take folic and vitamin d . For me it’s defo the tablets. The day I was sick snd took just a folic and vitamin d separate I wasn’t sick and that got me looking at the ingredients 🤣 such fun 🤩

Hey Rhinocat ! Sorry you are feeling bad 😬 I’m taking pregnacare max and tbh I have nausea 24/7 whether I take it in morning or evening . I think it’s pregnancy hormones ! Never had an issue with pregnacare conception hormones . I’m 9 weeks now … really hoping the nausea eases in the 2 nd trimester as it’s a struggle trying to do normal stuff like a long commute and work 🙄 been taking a few sick days so I can lie in bed . If you have any tips for nausea let me know ! Ginger sweets are awful . Fizzy drinks for me are helping a bit ( water makes me feel super sick !!!) x

RhinoCat profile image
RhinoCat in reply toGatarra

I’m with ya on the water! Ginger ale is ok, oranges, apples, Brazil nuts, cracker bread 🥺 such fun! I’ve taken the gummies two days in a row now and I don’t have that lunging icky feeling as bad, I eat as soon as my stomach lurches and that helps. Especially green apples and mini cheddars. Salt snd pepper crackers seem ok too. Rich tea biscuits etc all taste v v sweet 🤪 Hope you feel better soon

Nope you absolutely need iron!!!! Don’t think vitamins can make you feel sick…I think it’s ‘just’ the pregnancy hun xx

RhinoCat profile image
RhinoCat in reply toToughCOOKIE78

I know …..but I think it’s the iodine

Causing the sick because the gummies without it ain’t doing it 🤪🤪🤪

I don't do well on folic acid version (headaches/sickness) which is in a lot of multi-vitamins. No issue with methylfolate. This article might help:
