Baby Asprin and SCH!! Please help

Hi lovely ladies,

It has been a long time that l kept myself away from this forum as l try to manage my negative thoughts and focus on my cycle day by day with hope and positivity.

A quick background: first ivf- MMC at week 9 due to big SCH

Second ivf: canceled due to low estrogen

Third ivf: one embryo and now 8 weeks pregnant with again another SCH

Today l had my visibility scan. The measurements was matched with my date and strong heartbeat of 166. However, a closed SCH 2.2 cm x 1.2 cm on the other side of placenta. This round, despite the first round, l started taking Aspirin before transfer to help with blood clothing and SCH. I haven't had any bleeding up to today but my Dr. asked me today to stop taking Asprin for a few weeks till the SCH is settled.

I am so confused as the whole point of taking Asprin was to help with blood clothing and now l should stop it even though l have no bleeding.

Does anyone have any experience? Should l keep taking Asprin?

Thanks for sharing your experience 😊

Aspirin inhibits blood clotting so if you are having problems bleeding (ie developing haematomas) then aspirin can make them worse. Were you told to take aspirin to prevent another SCH? That seems counterintuitive. Even if you see no blood, I assume the doc would like you to stop taking it temporarily to allow it to heal as if you keep taking aspirin it may encourage it to keep reforming. Go with your doc’s instructions xx

There is a study looking directly at the relationship between them: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/268...

Hi Purpledoggy, Thank you so much for your comment and the study you referred to. Really appreciate it. My understanding was Asprin doesn't let the blood to clot to turn to SCH in the first place.

It is the opposite - aspirin inhibits platelets (which are tiny cell fragments in blood needed to initiate clotting) so taking aspirin makes it harder for the blood to clot and encourages you to bleed more. If you are predisposed to SCH formation aspirin would encourage it to happen again so I am surprised you were told to take it in first trimester xx

This is interesting as I’ve been told to take aspirin and fragmin this time and I had a SCH in my first pregnancy which was blighted ovum. I did mention it to the consultant and she didn’t seem concerned about the correlation x

Hey, Apparently haematomas are quite common with Ivf and happen when the baby implants.

I had one the same size as yours which was seen at 9 weeks and then started spotting at 13 weeks.

I was told to stop or not take any aspirin as it can lead to a bleed and cause your cervix to open when the haematoma bleeds out.

I was put on cyclogest pessaries and nifidipine tablets to prevent contractions also.

The hope is that the bigger that baby gets in comparison to the haematoma the safer it is for the pregnancy. Normally you will either bleed it out or your body will reabsorb it. Bed rest/ reduced movement should also help if you are able to.

I’m now 18 weeks and just started bleeding but hopefully it’s just the hematoma resolving itself 🤞🏽
