Asprin in pregnancy from NHS advice

Hi

Went to NHS yesterday for my 12 week scan.

I’m 43 baby though IVF they said to me where your over 40 it’s standard now we give all women aspirin 150 mg daily until birth.

My ivf clinic is in Spain and they have not heard this before.

I’m kind of stuck in the middle I’m a bit worried as I know asprin thins blood I’m worried will that effect the lining of my womb ? I’m just scared something will go wrong this is our 3 rd round of ivf and I had a miscarriage last year.

Also I suffer with lot of stomach problems eg had ulcers in the past. I know asprin terrible on the stomach worst than nurophen.

They told me the reason to take aspirin is it can help prevent pre-eclampsia. To take or not to take?

I then did read there is a blood test you can have now to determine whether you’re high risk for pre-eclampsia not sure if anyone’s heard of this ?

Any advice ladies x

Hi. I think it's pretty normal for the NHS to recommend aspirin in pregnancy to help lower the risk of pre-eclampsia. I'm 33 (so maybe they recommend it too all ages?) and was recommended it by my midwife, but I said on my last round of IVF I had early bleeding due to aspirin and didn't want to take it as I would worry about potential miscarriage with the pregnancy. She completely understood. You would think there would be a test to see if you NEED aspirin or if it's going to be a risk taking it, instead of just taking it with no idea! x

Hi ya. There is some evidence that it does help after MC and it seems to be common practice in the NHS for any high risk pregnancy (plus over 40!) it is a lower dose than what u can even buy in the supermarket.

We chose to start it from ET and have had no problems 🤞🏻 I am just ahead of u, am just over 13 weeks pregnant. X

Hi my clinic didn’t want me to take it from egg transfer and advise against it. I know it can be used in supporting ivf and miscarriage I’m in the after now and just concerned

I will wait to see what my ivf clinic say then have to make a decision

Thanks Sarah x

Thanks! Maybe i will try 150mg of Aspirin

I’m 40 they’ve told me to take it from 12w so I started on wed I was abit hesitant to take it too as I don’t have any blood clotting issues and I’ve had previous mc. I used aspirin before 12w with my last pregnancy I mc at 12w. I feel fine got my next scan on wed hopefully everything is still ok. (Natural pregnancy)

It’s standard practice to be advised aspirin for the reasons you suggest. As a midwife I would definitely encourage you to take the advice of your consultant in this :)
