2nd failed DE transfer

Hi, I did my test this morning, its my second negative, the first one was fresh DE transfer and this time it was Frozen Embryo transfer. The doctors where happy with the transfer I had hysteroscopy done 6 weeks before thought this would help. I have one more Embryo left, I just don't know what else I can do to make this a success. Has anyone else gone though this. I had to go to Spain for my treatment don't know if the heat would have been a problem, I stayed out there 2 days after the transfer relaxing.

Really sorry this transfer didn't work. Each ET carries so much hope and is the end result of so much effort 😢. It's just the worst. I doubt the heat would have had much impact. It's provably just the old 'numbers game' and a case of not beating the odds this time 😣 Thinking of you xx

My first two donor embryo transfers failed and I beat myself up so much! I felt positive that it would work, since the the donor was only 24. I didn’t even consider failure. I felt pretty broken for a while, afterward.

After that I went on to have ALL the tests! The first thing I found out was that my progesterone levels on transfer day were far too low. I just don’t seem to absorb it well. I will be more than doubling the amount of progesterone I use for my next transfer.

I have also had about a million immunity blood tests and ERA and ALICE tests. I get the results later this week, hopefully. I also have a new donor now, because my first fresh donor cycle only resulted in two blastocysts. The embryos for this try were frozen over ten years ago and are being donated to me.

I can’t express how nervous I am for the upcoming attempt. I am very aware of failure now and I am so scared.

Thinking of you and wishing you the best of luck. 🤞🏼🤞🏼

Hi Lancal, the clinic in spain checked my progesterone levels before transfer and they were happy. I have an appointment with the clinic and I just don't know what else to check before the nxt transfer. I'd like to get the nxt transfer done this cycle going over in Aug. My donor is 23, should I have the embryo checked?

Hi there! Like Cinderella below, I had an ERA test. It gives you an estimate of how long you need to take progesterone replacement before FET so your lining is most receptive. You need to do a “mock cycle” if you want to have this test, which means taking the HRT as though preparing for a transfer, then on the would be transfer day having a biopsy of the uterine lining. I’m in Australia and the sample had to be sent to Japan for testing. It has taken over 3 weeks to get the results back, plus the time in the mock cycle.

If I were you, and this is only my personal opinion (you will need to decide what is right for you), I would have an ERA test but I wouldn’t get the embryo tested. Due to the donor’s age, it is more than likely fine. The thawing, testing, refreezing then thawing again may end up damaging the embryo, plus the test itself could damage it. Was your donor a proven donor (as in, has one of her donated eggs resulted in a baby or has she had a baby herself, previously)? Given that you are using donor eggs and you only have one embryo left, I think genetic testing is too much of a risk.

Oh, and the ERA test cost me US$900 for the company in Japan, plus the cost for my specialist to do the procedure, which was AU$375.

Hi Lancal, Can I ask what date in your cycle did you have the transfer and what did you do afterwards did you take time off work to relax during the 2 WW?

Well, I have a genetic disorder and don’t have a natural cycle. I went through menopause in my late 20s. All of my cycles are medicated with hormone replacement.

When I get my ERA results I can tell you when I will be having the transfer in relation to progesterone replacement.

For my previous two transfers, I did the embryo transfer on the fifth day after starting progesterone. This is the standard protocol. You will find that most women on here have transfers on this day, as the clinics generally try to match up the length of progesterone replacement with the age of the embryo.

After my first fresh transfer I didn’t take any time off. I worked per normal. I found it much harder psychologically than I thought I would, though, so for the second transfer which was an FET, I took 10 days off.

For my next transfer, coming up mid August, I won’t be able to take time off work.

Thanks Lancal, I understand what your saying about the embryo i was just wondering if the embryo had chromosome problems when fertilised with the sperm that there not implanting. I didn't realise you needed to do a mock cycle for ERA test, so you would need to miss a cycle before going for the real one?

Yeah. After my two failures, I decided missing a month or so was definitely worth it.

I read up about Embryo Glue and a good few people using it...did you try this?

Lancal in reply to walla12

Yes, I did. Both my new and old clinic offer embryo glue as standard with every transfer, so yes, I have used it. My first two transfers failed, so it did not help in those. I will be using it again going forward as it is part of the protocol.

I has a few failures with really good DE embryos. We eventually did an ERA test and it turned out my implantation window was a full 24 hours later than "normal" ladies. We now have twin boys after following the ERA protocol for progesterone. It's an expensive test but worth it for us. I can also say the heat wouldnt have been an issue. Lots of ladies travel abroad for IVF and they have success....we had our transfer in Athens in mid July and it was booking hot!! Hugs, it's the hardest thing having your Hope's raised!!xx

Hi Cinderella5, ERA, what does this check for? Does it cost alot and do the result take long to come back? Would u recommend checking the final embryo we have for any problems and the 2 we had failed.

Great info from Lancal . I had my ERA done in London. Ask your clinic in Spain, they may have a linked clinic in the UK. I didnt check my embryos as the likelihood of issues was small.xx

Thanks for all that....did you use or know anyone that used Embryo Glue

My cycle was medicated so the day doesnt really matter but just for info....I started progynova & estradiol patches on day 2 of my cycle, had lining scan and had to up my meds after 9 days. Rescaned 4 days later and lining was ok. Started on progesterone 2 days later and transferred on day 23 of cycle. However, also note that my progesterone protocol isnt the normal, it was personalised to me after my ERA. Embryo glue is fairly commonly used in the NHS so yes I do know of some it's worked for but som it hasnt. I actually had a very busy time after we got home from Athens, got a new puppy so lots of sleeping on the couch and potty training, cleaning up etc.xx

Ps I was also on high doses of progesterone.
