I got booked in Friday to have our transfer of our only embryo.
During the transfer, the doctor couldn’t seem to get the catheter where it needed to go. She said that that it was going so far then for some reason it was getting blocked in my cervix?
She tried for about 3 or 4 hours with rest breaks in between and this became very painful for me. She used a soft catheter as well as the usual one and many other different methods. She even had me empty my bladder to see if that helped at all.
Nothing was working, so she said she had to stop. They’ve now frozen our embryo and are going to refer me to my local gynae for further investigations in my uterus.
To say we are blindsided and devastated is an understatement.
Here’s me blindly thinking this was the simplest procedure of them all.
Our doctor was extremely frustrated and said she had never experienced this before having done thousands of these, but assured me although rare, I’m not the only one this has happened to.
This is on the NHS and I’m 40 in December. We only get the 2 cycles and I’m very worried about time. They’ve told me before that once I get to 40 then there will be no more treatment.
It’s already taken us so long to get to this point with a lot of setbacks along the way and 7 years of struggle.
I don’t know where this leaves us. Everything feels hopeless.
Any advice or insights would be really appreciated at this point. Xx

So sorry to hear your news - hope you have people around you to give you support Is the Dr going to try to speed up your appointment at the gynaecology clinic ? Might be worthwhile asking her Sending you a big hug
Our doctor rang earlier to keep us updated on what’s going on.
She’s said she has left a message with my local gynaecologist receptionist and has also emailed her all the details.
She’s said she will keep chasing it up and said that if the waiting times are too long in my local area, she will try to get it referred to her usual hospital where she works.
This sounds really tough, I haven’t reached this stage yet, but we had a similar situation in delays and needing t get through before I was 35 (cut off in Berkshire). What we found worked well was booking a private appt with the gynaecologist (we got to then see them in a week vs months) it was a couple of hundred pounds then they referred us back into the NHS. Abit costly but might be worth it if you don’t have to wait.
My husband and I had discussed this as an option as well.
I asked our doctor today when she rang to update us and she asked us to hang tight, to allow her to chase this up first.
She said she has not taken this lightly and wanted to assure me that it was being dealt with.
If I feel in a few weeks time that we still don’t have any appointments or updates then I will just go ahead and book a private consultation, just for peace of mind.
Thanks for replying and I hope your journey goes smoothly 😊 xx
So sorry to hear your news, I hope that everything gets rushed through and can be sorted quickly. Sending big hugs 😊🫂Xx
So sorry to hear of your difficulties- I know how frustrating and disappointing it can be to get to transfer and for it not go ahead. Didn’t want to read and run as although it isn’t common it does happen. I had an abandoned transfer as they couldn’t get the catheter in. I ended up getting a dilatation and had to have transfers under conscious sedation to make it possible to do the transfer so just wanted to say there will hopefully be options for you. My doctor also said that it was better to stop after they had tried a few times as keeping trying can cause a lot of irritation and said they didn’t want to potentially impact implantation so although it’s disappointing not to get the transfer it’s good you’re embryos are frozen and safe until you can hopefully try again. Hope it helps to know there might be options although I know everyone’s situations are different. Fingers crossed for some positive news for you soon.
