Heart shaped uterus 2nd try at ICIS

Hello

Our first round of ICIS didn't work out. We are planning the second round. For our first we had an excellent rated embyro (sorry don't know the right terminology) it transferred fine, then on the 9th day I started bleeding. Thought it was IB but it was AF. We are now thinking how to improve the next round. I have a heart shaped uterus. I'm focusing on this area as this is where the embyro failed to implant (my guess not doctors as I have a follow meeting on the 13th July). Does anyone have a heart shaped uterus and had an op before ICIS or IVF? What's happened? Should I push for an op for my uterus. It will remove the heart dip at the top. Will this make any difference? Thank you very much.

Hi Rena. Not p3ersonally, but I have come across several heart shaped uterus problems. I suppose it depends upon how thick the fundus (top) of the uterus is, as to whether it needs surgery before IVF. Hopefully your swpecialist is well learned about bicornuate and heart shapes to be able to advise you. Keeping everything crossed for you. Diane

Thank you Diane, I will ask my docs. She has mentioned a light op but this was before the first cycle but shrugged it off when I briefly mentioned it again. Ill ask her again. Thank you.

Hi I had a heart shaped uterus and had the dividing bit removed, it was a really simple op under general.. I do know that some people its not suitable to have surgery - mine was more of an extra strip of tissue dividing the cavity rather than two separate cavities x

Hlo Daisy have you had a baby following op. Mine is the same shape as your pre op. Thank you x

Unfortunately no I haven’t had a baby yet but I have been told that’s due to poor egg quality rather than my uterus x

Hi. Sorry to hear your first round was unsuccessful. I also have a heart shaped uterus and my doctor said it was a normal genetic variant. I have never heard anything about surgery for it. I couldn’t get pregnant naturally because I have low estrogen levels, thyroid disfunction, and basically have no cycle. I tried clomid and other drugs to force ovulation but after three failed cycles moved onto IVF. I froze the embryos from my first cycle and did PGS testing. My first transfer failed which my doctor said is beyond control and really it’s a 50/50 chance each time. My second one worked and I am almost 10 weeks, going for a scan today. Eek, I am super nervous that there won’t be a heartbeat. Anyway, just wanted to share that with a heart shaped uterus it didn’t seem to negatively effect the results, more a non factor. I would think you would definitely want to discuss with your doctor before having a surgery as they might suggest another round prior. Good luck!

I should have mentioned I'm 41 years old and I feel like I'm running out of time!

Yeah I understand. It’s so hard that age is such a factor in all of this. You are lucky though you are still making good embryos. While my doctor said that transfers with chromosome normal embryos still only have a 50/50 chance of implantation, I have also read that most other implant ion failures are due to abnormal chromosomes. And from reading this forum there are many other ladies who have had other reasons for failed implantation. I have also read that your odds go up with three transfer attempts. So hang in there. You aren’t out at all yet!
