So we had our first fresh transfer a few weeks ago. I started spotting 8dpt, got a BFP 10dpt but bleeding got heavier and tests got lighter so it didn't work this time.
We'll be starting a medicated FET soon, I have an appointment on 1 July to discuss protocol etc.
I just wondered what questions I should be asking? And if anyone knows the answers to these ones to put my mind at ease while I'm waiting for my appointment?
So far I've got:
Why did I start bleeding so early if i got BFP? I thought the pessaries should prevent bleeding?
My lining at transfer was 20mm is this too much?
How long does FET take?
Does it involve down regulation?
Thanks! It's all a bit new to me still and I'm still getting to grips with it all! Xx

Hi VLGX, I'm sorry to hear about the bfp and then bleeding. I have been through the same and it sucks! I can hopefully answer one question and going through my 2nd FET. It starts on the first day of your period (for me the one after the bleed of unsuccessful transfer) if your going straight back into it. Take tablets for 12 days, have a lining scan then hopefully transfer will be approx. 5 days after. So much easier than a fresh transfer! X
Hi VLGX I'm about to have a medicated FET at an NHS clinic and they do prostap downreg on D21 of your cycle, scan 2 wks later then start to build your lining, scan another 2 weeks later then depending on how it looks it could be either1-2wks for the transfer. All up they say 6-8wks. Seems like an eternity! Good luck 🧡
Thank you, that's really helpful. I think this is the process we'll have too so I'll see what the nurse says. There's always so much waiting in the process! X
Hi lovely, sorry to hear about your cycle. Your positive tests could have been from the trigger injection. Especially as they were getting lighter. I would ask them to check your progesterone on the day of transfer for your FET. My clinic likes my levels to be above 50, so if they are low they’ll up the number of pessaries or add lubion injections. Good luck xx
Thank you, I will ask them to check my progesterone then. I did wonder about the trigger shot but thought it would have left my system by OTD. I just had pessaries for my fresh so I'll mention the lublin injections too. X
An FET doesn’t involve a trigger shot, so you wouldn’t get a false negative. Only on a fresh cycle where you’ve had an egg collection… feel free to ask any more questions! Xxx
Sorry to hear your transfer didn't work. It is so emotionally hard but it will get better Ask to have your progesterone monitored and also whether they will change/increase your progesterone. Also is there any additional testing they could do at this stage like screening for thrombophilia. xx
Thank you, I will ask about the progesterone. Ooh I'd never heard of thrombophilia so that's one for my question list! They might not test quite yet as I'm only on my first round but definitely something I'll ask about. X
They will usually recommend testing for thrombophilia after 3 failed transfers but I decided to just pay to have it done after my first-I didn’t have enough embryos to waste them only to find out something could have been done sooner. Nothing showed up but I still felt it was money well spent as it meant we could rule it out. Xx
You are now in the looking forward to better things with the FET phase and you are doing the right thing by thinking ahead and prepping for your next appointment.
For me when my fresh transfer failed, I had similar questions like you. I had requested a questionnaire from Admin of this forum. See if you would like to try that out in addition to the questions coming out of this thread.
What I’ve heard is that FET is way kinder to the body in comparison with a fresh cycle. After my appointment with consultant, I was more convinced about a medicated FET .
Here’s wishing you the very best for your appointment and the FET journey.
Thank you, yes I agree a FET sounds kinder to the body. I didn't feel too bad after egg collection but I think a frozen round I'll feel more like myself a rested before we start. I'll ask Admin for a list of questions too. X
