FET Transfer Questions...

Morning lovely ladies,

I was wondering if anyone who has had a FET transfer would be able to help me.

I froze embryos in May and am having a transfer later this year after getting my TSH levels sorted.

As I am quite the planner aka control freak 😳 I find the unknown all quite difficult on top of everything else so was wondering if anyone could give me an idea of how long this may take. I am having to work dates around a trip in May next year so wouldn’t want to be too far in to pregnancy then (if it was successful of course 🤞)

So for example if I was to say start this from my first day of my period in October, when would I expect to have the transfer? And if all being well and I got a BFP, would the 40 weeks start from the transfer date?

At the moment I don’t know if I’m having a natural or medicated transfer so not sure if that makes a difference also.

Hope this makes sense! Thanks in advance ☺️ Xxx

I had two FET, both with no down regulation and both with transfer at CD24, but it depends on your lining, but it is quite quick.

If you transfer a 5day blasto, the day of the transfer you are already 2weeks and 5 days pregnant! With a 3 day transfer you will be 2w+3!

Thank you for your response. So you count back to the first day of your cycle and add on your embryo or blastocyst days. That’s really helped, thank you xx

It is much simpler than this. Traditionally, they date pregnancy with the first day of your last period, supposing that (again traditionally) you will ovulate (and the egg is fertilised) after 14 days. This is because they cannot pinpoint the exact day of fertilisation. However, with IVF they can, and therefore they just count 14 days back (that is the 2week part). Then, you just add the days your embryo has been cultured for (2-5) and then it is how long you have been pregnant for! This is regardless of the actual date of your period before the transfer. Hope this makes sense!

There are also on-line calculator, like this one: yourivfjourney.com/baby-cal...

Thank you. I did think I was over complicating it. It’s actually more accurate than traditional which is what I must remember.

Thanks so much for your help xxx

Yep, this is also because they often induce women with IVF pregnancy after 40 weeks --they know it is exactly 40 weeks!

Oh well yes that makes sense! Just wish I could know if I could do it October or November but will really depend on my cycle 🤦🏻‍♀️

Something I learned is that it is impossible to plan, unfortunately :(

Hi,

I needed to down reg for my first fet so I started on day 2 of my period and my transfer was about 4-5 weeks after that. My 2nd I didn’t down reg and start to finish it only took 11 days.

I’m exactly like you, I need to be able to plan! Xx

Hey, thanks for your reply.

So if it was 4/5 week for transfer you’d still count back to the first day of your cycle and that’s how far along you’d be if it was successful?

I’m doing this alone so am planning like a mad woman and some ways it’s great as I can get organised on many other things but my cycle is out since egg collection so along with that and me being so confused with dates, it’s a struggle!! xx

I’m not sure to be honest, that bit really confuses me! I know that’s how it would usually be calculated but it doesn’t seem right in that circumstance??

Ahh yeah it’s difficult when the dates go out of sync but it like you’re nailing it! Xx

Its confusing isn’t it. I guess I’ll just haven’t to relax a bit and plan as much as I can....xx

Hi,

I had two FET medicated with progynova. First transfer was at CD25. The second was after a failed natural FET. I had the transfer on D23 of progynova. I had 5 day blastocysts. So when my lining was ready I had to start progesterone pessaries and 5 days later I had the transfer.

Normally I have long cycles (around 33 days). If you have shorter cycles it can be more quickly. Good luck! ;)

Hi thank you for replying. That’s really helpful. My cycles vary from 29-34 days but will see what happens now as my 2nd one after egg collection is delayed 😏 I’ve read that’s common though.

Thanks very much! Good luck 😉 xx
