Follow up appointment. What to ask?

So as you all know ive now used all my eggs from my 2nd round of ivf i had last November.

1st transfer BFP but miscarried on 27th of December.

2nd transfer (fet) 1st embryo didnt survive the thawing process but 2nd one did but it was a bfn

3rd transfer (fet) bfn

4th transfer embryo didnt survive the thawing process.

With these kind of stats what would you be asking?

Should we be looking trying to find out why the embryos are failing to implant/not progress before we have our next fresh cycle.

It can't all just be down to luck.

Looking forward to hearing back.

Lynsay xx

Hi. So sorry to see your journey it is so so hard. Diane has a list of questions she can email you if you direct message her. Hope all goes well. Xx

Hi Lynsay, I would be asking if they had any idea why the embryos didnt survive the thaw (although they may not know this)?, what grading were they? When I went for a review after we failed with my OE they basically just said it was "more than likely" due to egg quality due to my age but really couldnt tell me an awful lot more. I asked if there was a reason that our good ones didnt work and they just said there was no reason why I didnt get pregnant as they had seen much worse embryos take....in other words they didnt know. I do think there is a huge element of this treatment that is unknown and luck which I guess explains why the success rates are not great at around 30%. My biggest questions were what did they think my chances were if I tried again and what do they they could change to increase success, could you try a different protocol, is it worth checking karyotyping of you and hubby etc. Could you try DHEA, ubiquinol to improve egg quality. Camillage is right though, Diane Arnold has a really good list of questions that you can take along, some may not be relevant but will give you a starting point. Good luckxx

I always recommend karyotyping because it gave us our answers. However it is only something like a 2% chance that you and your partner having a Karyotyping blood test will give you an answer. If your infertility is unexplained, and you can afford a few hundred pounds on blood tests then this is the one I would do.
