Egg Retrieval

Hi all🥰

I’m just looking for a bit of reassurance lol, I had egg retrieval this morning and was told they had collected 10 eggs..this is my first time ICSI so I’m just wondering if this is a good amount? As I have seen on previous ladies posts a lot more being collected and I’m aware that all 10 may not start to develop into embryos I’m just panicking a bit🙈I was sure on my last scan I had a lot more than 10 so was just a wee bit worried😭

Hi, I would say it's quality rather than quantity. You only need one to make it! I have seen women on here with 20 eggs collected but none viable for transfer, but equally some with just 5 or 6 collected and all were good quality. So try not to worry too much about the number. I had 8 collected and 1 made it to day 5, so I would say 10 is a good number.Fingers crossed for you 🤞

10 is a good amount,

I got 7

6 were suitable for fertilisation

5 fertilised

3 made it to day five with one of those three they left til day six to see if it turned into a blastocyst

2 were blastocysts

Transferred 1 of them

1 in the freezer

Am 32 weeks pregnant today with that one they transferred 😀

Hi aquarius88, 10 is a really good number😁 just try and remember it's all about quality not quantity and it only takes one. It's hard not too worry but you're off to a great start with 10, hopefully you will get a call today to tell you how many have fertilised. Good luck💛💫 x

This sounds great! A good chance of a blasto out of this number 🙏🏻 just have to wait and see the fertilisation rate etc now . Well done for surviving up to this point 💐💐😘🙏🏻🙏🏻💖💐💖 now rest rest rest! The next few days are so hard Wait wise 😩🙏🏻💖💐 be kind to yourself 💐💖

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply💕...aww I literally have all my fingers and toes crossed for a good outcome🤞🏼I’ll be a nervous wreck until I get the call tomorrow to find out🙈I was traumatised once I found out about the pessaries when I was being discharged, they sound delightful😩😂 xx

Ahh don’t worry they’re fine! Back end is better in my opinion ! No mess & out the way instantly whereas front end can be messy x

I’ve never had the bum bullets but they sound like less mess.

The other way gels end up with a build up of waxy muck. Not nice 😅😂 Will be thinking if ya. Hopefully you get some sleep 😴

Unfortunately I can only take these ones from the front😭..I never thought I’d see the day I’d be stressed about where I could put pessaries...IVF is defo an eye opener😂xx

As the other ladies say try not to get stuck on the numbers, which I know is hard, but it really is the quality that counts. I had 8 retrieved and we ended up with 3 really good quality 5 day frosties. Good luck ❤️ x

Depends on how old you are but 10 sounds good. When I had my first ever go of ivf 6 years ago I was 31 years old and I got 16 but they all died by day 2apart from 1 which is our daughter we have now, she is 5! So don't worry too much about numbers it's the quality more that counts

Awww I love hearing success stories, congrats on your little girl💛..I’m 33 and this is my 1st round of ICSI I think it’s just because I don’t have a clue about it all it can be bit stressful, but all the advice on here has helped me so much

Hey lovely!! Yes it’s a very good number, any number between 8-12 is a really good number. I had 9 eggs and and ended up with 3 embryos. Think of 50 % each time, out of 10 your hopefully gonna get 5 or more fertilise and about 4 or 3 embryos! Ofcourse it still all depends on whats written for you! Good luck! And office it is totally about quality rather than quantity, people with 20 eggs etc is over stimulation in many cases. Rest up, drink lots of water and believe with all your heart that this will work out! 💞

Hey! I can completely relate to what you're going through, we had our first ICSI cycle in February. I agree with the other comments, its definitely quality of quantity, I had 8 eggs collected, 2 fertilised, and those 2 made it to day 5 for embryo transfer. So I would say 10 is a good number! And I wish you all the luck in the world on your journey!
