So had my egg collection today. Out of the 3 follicles they saw on Monday they only managed to retrieve 2 eggs. They also said they had to double drain the follicles to get at the eggs. Does anyone know if it's a struggle to get the eggs and they have to do this double procedure, it means the quality is bad? One of the doctors was quite negative afterwards when explaining it to me and I didn't ask a lot of questions but it's made me super anxious.
Also, any stories with such low egg numbers positive or negative would be much appreciated.
Thanks all xx

Hi lovely. Uff sorry to hear the doctor was a bit negative when talking to you: it never helps, does it? Maybe call the clinic and ask to chat with them again if you feel like you have questions?
If it makes you feel any better, we got only 4 eggs and the doctor said two didn't look very good, but actually, they all fertilised. Then, on day five the embryologist sounded pretty negative about how our eggs were doing. She said two had stopped growing and the others were slow. So both times I was *devastated* because I was convinced we'd end up with nothing because of how negative everyone sounded; in the end, however, two survived and were frozen. 😅
Hi Hannied123,I would say: well done! You have 2 eggs so you are still in the game! Doctors sounding so negative don't help, and they shouldn't do that, as we know for fact they are often wrong
😅If you are really anxious I would call them back and ask for more clarification about it but at the moment just try to be positive as any of those eggs can still be your child very soon
Hello- I woke up from my last egg retrieval in January to be told they only got 2 eggs (from 4 follicles on the last scan). I was devastated and couldn’t understand what happened to the 2 other follicles. I was even more upset to be told the next day that only 1 egg fertilised. On day 3 they said it was looking average so I asked to change to a day 3 transfer. I had very low hopes but that was my first ever positive pregnancy test and my son is lying next to me on the couch right now. Just wanted to provide some hope that low numbers don’t necessarily mean it won’t work. It only takes 1 egg and I really hope this is the round for you xx
My clinic don’t grade embryos at day three but the embryologist did say they weren’t sure it would make it to day 5 to freeze as it was average quality (I was meant to be doing 3 cycles and freezing all embryos due to my low AMH). I asked to change to a day 3 transfer as I couldn’t handle the thought of going through the round with nothing to freeze. I was really struggling mentally. The round I did before in Oct/Nov I had a good graded 4AB embryo transferred on day 5 which failed to implant. It’s really changed my opinion on grading. Seen so many people have success on here with lower graded embryos. If they are good enough to transfer then they can make a baby!Sending you lots of luck xx
Sorry to hear about your doctor being so negative! I see it as you have 2 chances!
I only got 3 eggs, 2 fertilised and one made it to day 3 transfer. I'm currently just over 4 weeks pregnant! I know it's hard but try to stay positive as you only need 1! Good luck 🤞🏻❤
*update*Embryologist called this aftern⁰oon. Only one of the two retrieved was mature enough to be injected (ICSI). the other one isn't mature enough yet but both have gone u to embroyoscope so here shoping tomorrow xx
