Non-Medicated to Medicated FET

Has anyone switched from a non-medicated to a medicated FET? My third transfer (which was my first FET) was non-medicated as I have regular periods and ovulate without any problems. All went well during the non-medicated FET (other than the fact it ended in yet another chemical pregnancy!). It definitely didn't feel non-medicated as I was taking lots of progesterone and blood thinners but this was only from a few days before transfer so was a lot 'less' medicated than it otherwise could have been.

For my next FET, the consultant has recommended I switch to a medicated cycle. He didn't really give any clear explanation as to what the benefits of this change would be other than it giving 'more control'...but I don't understand why 'more control' is needed?!

I'm happy to do it and am always up for trying new things if it offers any hope of a better result, I just wanted to know if anyone else had switched protocol and if it had made any difference?

(NB: I've had 3 early miscarriages - 4 weeks, 5 weeks and 4 weeks from my 3 transfers to date. I'm in a same-sex relationship with no known fertility problems as yet. 33 years old).

Thanks in advance all.

Hey,

My post isn’t going to be very helpful but just wanted to share my experience. So I’ve done a mixture of both medicated and non medicated. My experience has been that unfortunately my DR is just clutching straws and trying anything. I’ve had BFP from both methods but unfortunately like you went on to MC. The furthest I got with one was 10 weeks that was with a non medicated cycle and then the next MC was at 6weeks that was a medicated cycle. X

Hi anz I'm about to have my third transfer (already had one fresh and one natural frozen and this one is going to be medicated) speaking to the clinic for this transfer I need a COVID test 5 days before, whereas the only other time I've needed testing was before EC. They maybe doing medicated so they can control the dates better with staffing etc. I found natural quite stressful as was worried I'd ovulate on the day that meant I couldnt have a transfer that month, as transfer day would fall on a Sunday when they're closed and would be wasted

Hi anz sorry to hear about your losses, I think you now have what would be considered recurrent miscarriage with 3 losses, have they discussed doing an ERA to check timing of transfer? best of luck 🧡

Thank you for you reply. Yes, I am being referred to a recurrent miscarriage clinic now so will see if that provides any answers. The consultant said it wasn't necessary to do an ERA as all my embryos to date have implanted...it seems different clinics adopt different views on this. Let's see how transfer number 4 goes...don't think I can take much more!! xx

Fingers and toes crossed that you don't need to see the clinic 🧡

Hi I was forced to move to a medicated FET last year simply because the clinic wanted more control over timings of patients transfers days due to covid capacity (nhs). I was quite upset as like you I saw no need for it as I had regular cycles and I had a chemical/miscarriage at 6 weeks with previous FET just before lockdown so didn’t want to put my body through more than it needed. It involved full down reg using prostrap which also added a month to my treatment. It did mean less visits to the clinic too though as everything was already timed so they just checked my lining. I have to say though I’m not complaining anymore as currently 33 weeks pregnant so Perhaps anything is worth a try! I honestly believe most of it is just luck and the doctors trying things. Hoping your next round is the one 🤗 xxx

For me, the benefit of a medicated FET is the clinic can almost precisely predict the date of transfer. I was able to arrange one week off work in advance. But if your period cycle is bang on every month, you probably don't need that.
