Hi everyone, Im new here and actually having IVF in the Canary Island but i didnt find a forum there to chat and exchange infos and strength to this process. I had my first in vitrio but than i was told i have billateral hidrosalpinx. Now im waiting for the operation to have them cliped. I thought this thing is more common but I guess not. I dont know what I can expect after the op.

Will I have chance to get pregnant by IVF after?

Hi Timea,

I had hydrosalpinx in 1 tube. I had it clipped last month. I had the option of proceeding with my IVF cycle in November or waiting for the op & I delayed IVF to have it clipped. This is because my consultant said hydrosalpinx can lower chances of successful implantation and makes early miscarriage rates much higher from the fluid leaking from the tube, back into the womb, creating a hostile environment.

He said having hydrosalpinx present can reduce success of IVF by up to 60%.

I don't have any success to report after surgery, at least not yet anyway because I'm only 6 weeks post op & starting IVF this week. Good luck. Xx

Hi Lizzie. I had all my tests for the operation now im waiting for the operation itself. Did you have to wait 6 weeks or they simple couldnt give you an earlier time to start IVF?Good luck for you hope everything goes well!

My surgeon said 6 weeks was the minimum time I was allowed to wait before having IVF treatment xx

Hi Timea. There is a natural lubrication in your tubes to allow an egg to gravel down and sperm to swim up. Any excess fluid spills out through the open end. If it can’t, then it can only drip into the womb. It is widely believed that this fluid can prevent a developing embryo from implanting, so this is why they are removed or clipped in the case of hydrosalpinx. You then continue to try IVF. Hope all goes well for you. Diane

Hi Diane thanks for the answer. I know I can go with IVF after this, just my doctors are not really talkative. I thought maybe theres someone here who had it and can tell me her experiences about hidrosalpinx. 😊

Hi my love... sorry to hear your going through with this but I’m a fellow hydrosalpinx warrior. I have a failed ivf transfer due to my hydrosalpinx.... I then went of to have the operation to have it clipped and my next cycle was positive and he is nearly 2 years old. So you can have ivf and your chances are a lot higher when the hydro has been treated.... good luck with your treatment xx

Hi that sounds great, now you made my day😀 Did you as well have to wait 6 weeks after surgery?

If I remember is was around 6-8 weeks.... and you’ll be surprised how quickly that goes..... also just to note I did have acupuncture sessions 1/2 leading up to transfer and then on the day of transfer I went on the tube to have a session in the morning and then had another session after the transfer too..... I ate Brazil nuts, pineapple core and had pomegranate juice for 5 days I think after transfer as that was supposed to help with lining etc.... I did almost everything I could do get a positive result.... only god knows whether that all helped too ❤️❤️

I try to take care of myself too taking vitamins, doing exercise... So if I understood well actually for the 2nd time you had IVF you got pregnant right? I had 1 already but obviously failed because they didnt detect hidrosalpinx before. -6-8 weeks sounds a lot to wait.

Im just getting older😅 I will be 38 this may I know its not that old but I wont be younger so I really wanna have everything done like right now😃 Anyway Im optimistic that everything goes well.

Hi Timea

I had a left hydrosalpinx and adhesions due to stomach surgery as a child. In October I had my left tube removed, is it is widely believed that the hydro can stop implantation due to leaking fluid. My surgery was quite risky due to my adhesions but my surgeon truly believed it was for the best.

My recovery from the operation was quite tough but I had to have adhesions removed so the surgeon could reach the tube- I think clipping is less intensive so would expect recovery to be quicker.

One of the reasons IVF was invented was to help women who have had tubal issues. With all other factors being good/ok, you have a positive chance of IVF working.

I cant tell you about my full journey yet as I have just had my IVF approved (NHS) and I have decided to start later this year in the spring.

Best wishes to you

Hello. I had bilateral hydrosalpinx and was told I needed to have surgery to remove both tubes. I did so in October (or rather they were clipped, not removed). I was really upset about having to do it, but it was necessary to increase our chances. I'm in the TWW of second embryo transfer now. Best of luck with whatever you end up doing. xoxo

Hi there, I had a left hydrosalpinx discovered & removed before starting IVF. My surgery was in October & my first round of IVF started in December (it goes by fast though, as you spend much of that 2 months prepping for IVF). My first round failed but I immediately started a second round and that one was successful! I’m currently holding my 2 month old in my lap!

Also, for my second round I had started the supplements recommend in “it starts with the egg”. Not sure if they were what made the difference but I figured it was worth a shot. She has a whole endometriosis plan & everything.

Hi. I had bilateral hydrosalpinx. I had surgery to remove them in October. They said I had to have one period after surgery before I could have ivf. My period was late following the surgery which worked out about 6 weeks. I am on my first cycle of ivf now. Hope that helps xx
