IVF stopped

I started my IVF and have been taking meriofert and cetritide on the antagonist protocol, however, I went for my second scan today to look at my follicles and I had one 18mm and 14mm but the rest were under 10mm on the left and none on the right. They advised me to stop this protocol and will be taking me to discuss at their MDT and whether I need to change protocols. I have a low egg reserve anyways, but unsure how to feel?! Has anyone else experienced something similar? I'm feeling very dissapointed.

Hi there, it is hard when they decide to cancel a cycle! I've had two cycles cancelled, but got two frozen embryos from another one. Don't give up hope!

Sorry to hear this, it’s so hard when you have a cycle cancelled. It sounds like you had some response so they may want to change protocol for you. My cycle of ivf was cancelled but amh was extremely low and I had no response at all.

I hope you get some news soon, if your clinic has a counsellor, might be worth a chat with them. The one I spoke to was really helpful sort of preparing for next steps. Good luck!

Thank you. I think the hardest thing for me was because they seemed positive in my first scan that there was some good response. Thank you for your reply, I really appreciate it! And they have referred me to a counsellor, and due to this being my first time I wasn't really sure what to expect. Sorry to hear about your IVF being cancelled.

Hello TillySorry that this has happened

It happened to me in 2019

It is the worst feeling like the world wants your feelings switched off like a light switch. I felt a previous failed cycle was easier to grieve over.

In my case I responded badly to bemfola, although I was not keen on this new medication I took the clinics advice. It ended up in an abandoned cycle and not to mention money down the drain.

The only good that has come out of it is more investigations before my next cycle and another consultant and looking at things at another angle.

It is unfortunate but that review that you get will help you plan forward, push for answers and other approaches. There is hope.

Take care

Hi, thank you for you for your reply and sorry about this happening to you in 2019. It is literally as you described, and I think because everyone was so positive about it at least getting to the collection day it was a shock. That is definitely a good way to look at things, that a lot more professionals are now going to be involved and hopefully this will increase my chances next time.

I think there are a lot of unanswered questions I need to ask, which I have made a note of because when they asked me in my appointment if I had any, I wasn't able to even think!

Really appreciate your reply, thank you.

I'm confused could they now have collected the 18mm and 14mm? I've got low AMH (2.1 eheb last checked over a year ago) and I was on same meds. I only ended up with 4 eggs worth collecting. 3 fertilised 2 are in the freezer and the other one is a 28 week year old wrigglely bump that I'm still growing. I don't understand why it was cancelled? So sorry for the crappy start to your journey but don't give up. Every step you learn something and can change and adapt till you get the right result. Xx

This was my initial response, and they informed me that they wanted more than just the 2, and stated that they aim for 4 or more - they were concerned that by the time the others had grown, they would have lost the good one (18mm). Their main concern was also that I had no follicles at all on the one side, not sure if this is common in other women? Thank you, I really appreciate it, and congratulations on your 28 week old wriggler! x

I only had 3 growing until my final scan. 1 larger one on the right and 2 much smaller ones on the left. They literally found the final one on the final scan before my egg collection and in reality it was never big enough to do anything with anyway. Can you still try naturally this month so things are totally wasted or is that not advised either? Xxx

O really? That's amazing that 3 of them fertilised though! Unfortunately I won't be able to naturally try because my tubes are blocked - however I'm feeling a lot better about the whole situation now and hopeful next week they will be able to let me know then plan for the next steps! Thank you xx

Oh I'm so sorry my lovely. Good that you already have your follow up booked in so you can start re-planning. Xx

Yes! This happened to me. Although I was disappointed, the doctor did a great job explaining that this commonly happens and is no fault of my own. We started back up the next cycle and I got to retrieval and transfer!

Every time I get down about all the things I can’t control, I let myself have my moment and then think about worst case scenarios and the things that ARE working.

It’s not always easy. But this forum has really helped me realize I’m not alone, fortunate, and will be strong!

Wish you all the best!

Aww thats amazing you were able to start on the next cycle! I was hoping this would be the case for me, but my periods are never predictable and knowing my luck ill come on before they have a plan for me! Thank you! I wrote this question the night of being told I had to stop and im so glad I did, because I am already feeling a lot more positive about it all.

Really appreciate your reply, thank you!

Don’t give up! I have a friend who kept waiting for the doctors to call her to start the next cycle. It’s ok to call and set up a meeting ahead of time and get a jumó ahead of things. Unless they tell you otherwise, there’s no reason why you have to wait. I have also noticed that a lot of this is trial and error and that’s why it takes a few tries. Good luck! Just keep moving forward!
