My GP confirmed I am being booked in for a hysteroscopy but due to covid (everything's due to Covid!), I wont be having anaesthesia for some reason and don't have to self isolate... My question is has anyone ever had it without anaesthetic? Was it bad? I had an endometrial scratch before and I hit the roof. I think I have quite a high pain threshold too.. Thanks for any help, X

Hysteroscopy without anaesthetic
Hey. This is something i might do early next year. Consultant said to pop a couple of ibuprofen and paracetamol before (an hour) the procedure xx
That's what I done before the scratch and it didn't even touch the sides. From what I've read on here, that seems to be rare, maybe I just had a bad experience, but I will load up on painkillers thanks!
I'll probably be booked in early next year too, hope it's worth it xx
I’ve had this done and a HSG twice - never had anaesthetic x
Would you mind me asking how long did you wait to have your Hysteroscopy booked? I guess you are doing it on NHS. I also been referred so I am waiting now 😤🤯 looked on NHS website and is showing waiting time 45 weeks (this is almost a year, hell!!) Hope you didn't wait that long. Good luck 🤞♥️
Seriously?? Oh Ranchu. I don't know yet, the GP confirmed to me on Monday, I assumed from the way she was talking it was not too long. I'll get the letter shortly and let you know. If it comes to a year I'll have to pay private 😞 😞. I really hope they get you in before then, maybe a cancellation..? xx
My GP sent the letter to Gynecology, from there I need to receive a letter back with the confirmation and acknowledgment of the request. Then I will be on the waiting list until.... God knows 😤 I am definitely considering to do it on private clinic abroad as it costs around 150 euro but not cancelling the NHS one yet. It is sooo frustrating 🙄🥴
My clinic abroad quoted 1500 euro. 🥺 So you're is great!! Wouldn't blame you. And I think in the UK you're lucky to pay less than 2-4 k. I'll see what my leyetter from gynecology says. Fingers crossed for us both x
It it helps, I had a Hysteroscopy done privately with Anaesthetic and a biopsy back in October. It cost me around £1350. My clinic is abroad too but I’ve been doing tests and investigations at a local UK clinic.x
Thanks Sazzle. Nightmare eh. I'm getting some of the immune tests at the same time as the hysteroscopy. I hope 2021 is better for all of us after all this! X
Hi I had a hysteroscopy last month while the doctor was down there did an endometrial scratch. The scratch hurt me a lot I wasn’t prepared!! But I’ve you’ve had that you know what it’s like. The hysteroscopy was uncomfortable and weird but over really quickly and the doctors and nurses were so nice! Felt quite faint after and they did warn me but felt fine after a couple of hours but I think all the discomfort was from the scratch. I was really worried but was fine x
If you have health insurance (maybe through work?) you could go private. I was put to sleep and had mine done privately. It was done within 4 weeks. I had a HSG and took pain killers; I didn’t have any pain... but when I had my saline sonography I almost passed out! I didn’t have any pain killers as they did it on the spot. So I think pain killers are important before the procedure. X
I did one without any painkillers (or stronger), and honestly wouldn’t hesitate to do again without pain relief. Perfectly fine. A tiny bit of discomfort like a swab, nothing more. Mine was purely diagnostic. I can imagine if they plan polyp removal or something you’d need some pain relief! Good luck
I believe they are done without GA most commonly - the info I was given by my clinic implied it was unusual do do it under GA. I had one earlier this year and what they described in the info was exactly right - strong period cramps but that's it. I had some paracet and ibuprofen beforehand because I am a wussy and it was fine. I did not have any biopsies or polyps removed so I can't say if it is more painful to have these things done, however, but again in the info they gave me they said they would use local for that if needed. The procedure itself was about 10 minutes and the strong period pains were only for about 5 of that. xx
I’ve had 2 hysteroscopy’s done without anaesthetic and I had a biopsy of my lining took during one of them. I found the hysteroscopy uncomfortable and mildly painful when they moved the camera around, but it was definitely manageable. The biopsy was painful, but it was over very quickly, I’d say it was about 10 seconds of sharp pain, but that stopped as soon as it was over and then I was left with mild period style cramps for a few hours. I was just told to take painkillers, so I took co-codamol (which they said I was ok to take) and ibuprofen. It certainly isn’t the most pleasant procedure to go through, but all the nurses and the doctor were really lovely and comforting and the procedure itself doesn’t take that long x
Thanks for that. It sounds much like the endometrial scratch. It's the biopsy I'm not looking forward to. What we put ourselves through.. I hope it's worth it and I don't have to do anything like this again. Ill take all the painkillers too, thanks xx
