When I started the IVF journey, I knew things could not be smooth but also, I couldn’t imagine such ride.
While waiting for the clinic to reopen me and my husband decided to start a new cycle in a private clinic. After we did all the genetic tests (both) and prothrombin profile (for myself) I started the stimulation for the eggs collection. That morning, after the eggs collection, I went home and I started to feel pain, got paracetamol but the pain didn’t stop. I called the clinic and they suggested me to go to A&E immediately. At 9 pm we arrived at the hospital and they admitted me in the early morning, around 5 am. The doctor only decided to scan me at 8 am, where they found out there was “liquid” in my tummy, which at the time was big as I never saw it before. I couldn’t move for the pain, couldn’t walk, couldn’t go to the toilet. Nothing.
The following day I was visited from at least 10 doctors, from different departments, Fertility, Gynaecology, general medicine etc…They kept saying that probably was OHSS and if blood test during the night was stable, I could go home the following day.
That afternoon I received a call from my doctor of the private clinic. He got worried when I told him I was going to be discharge. He immediately called the doctors at the hospital and informed them that it could only be blood because OHSS symptoms start later after egg collection, not right after, as it happened to me. Few hours later one of the doctors from the hospital came to inform me that I was going to have an emergency surgery, within half an hour, because the haemoglobin was dropping too fast.
I had laparoscopy surgery, lasted 2,5 h and they've removed 1 litre of Blood.
I still think what could have happened if I didn’t go to the hospital right after I found that something was wrong, what if my doctor didn’t call the hospital…what if…
I’m still here, alive and physically stronger than ever, but emotionally weak at the same time…waiting for FET now and who knows what else?
