Changing clinic after 1st IVF failure

Hello

I just want to hear your opinion about changing clinics after a failure from the previous IVF,is it a good idea? I will have to start everything afresh with this new clinic and new doctor. My previous IVF only 2 eggs collected and didn’t make it blastocyst,my doctor said could be the issue with the egg,she gave me supplements to use,coq 10,omega 3,DHEA and prenatal vitamins, then we should do the 2nd circle, but i was thinking of changing clinics to see maybe i will get different results and be successful with the other clinic.

I’m sorry you went through this, it can be very disappointing during the first cycle but be reassured that each cycle can be very different.

Did you have a long or short protocol? I found that the long protocol just didn’t suit me. I was 40 with a typical AMH for my age and found that I had much better results when I changed clinic and went for a short protocol. Very few people have success on their first cycle, it is very common to have 2-3 cycles before success.

It’s a hard question to answer re changing clinics, but I do think it’s helpful to get a fresh perspective. The first round is often important to gather information and then tailor treatment accordingly. Good luck, keep going 🍀

hello how are you? I’ve always found that the first time is a general way to do it, how does your body react what can the doctors learn and see from it. I personally wouldn’t move after one round unless I felt there was a real lack in communication or I felt that the doctor wasn’t for me. No matter where u go to they will be starting from scratch learning your body xxx

We had a consultation with a second clinic (aka the bootcamp) after our first round failed - perhaps you could try that if you’re not 100% convinced by your clinic at this stage? It was actually really lovely and reassuring to get a second opinion and to have them nod along to everything my clinic was suggesting for the second round. They also made some other suggestions which I took on board. When a round fails, it easy to blame the clinic - I know I did. They’re kind of guessing on the first round, but any clinic would be the same. I stayed with my original clinic after getting the second opinion, and the protocol changes led to an improvement in my next cycle. They were also really amenable to some of the things I asked for, and that was another thing that kept me there. I second Boo’s comments on comms and the doctor. Xx

Hi! I would ask the clinic if they are going to change anything about your protocol in addition to the supplements. Worth checking the HFEA website for clinic success rates and comparisons. I think it is important to listen to your instinct too - if you don't feel your clinic are doing everything they can, it might be worth changing. The new clinic won't be starting from scratch because you will have your protocol and past experience to share with them. Whatever you decide, very best of luck!

After one round no i wouldn't change. The first round is like the practice run to see how your body reacts etc. Very few people have success after the 1st round. Good luck in whatever you decide xx

I wouldn't changed clinic after first round. Ask them what suggestions they have for your second round. Make some research yourself so your can ask informed questions that will atleat give you a prace of mind and hope for the next round. All the best xx

Heya, it’s a tough one - I felt there had to be something more my clinic could do but as most folks are saying it’s a bit of trial as you move through each round. It’s definitely interesting to hear what protocol they suggest for next round -

For my first round I had Menopur and they decided to try Gonal-F for second round. With gonal-F I had less eggs retrieved but more fertilised and were better quality embryos. In my third round we decided to repeat gonal-F and I had taken a pre-pregnancy multivitamin that contained coQ10, I’ve finally had an embryo stick so your initial clinic could be on the right path. It’s hard to know as everyone is different so the clinic can only go by how your treatment is going and make suggestions moving forward. Make sure to request a copy of all your notes if you do decide to go elsewhere so they can see what protocol you’ve already had.

Best of luck and keep us posted xx

Thank you MayTheForth , and best of luck with your pregnancy too

I personally wouldn’t change after one round, the first round is so often a learning round for you and your clinic and whilst we all hope our first round will be the one it’s really quite unusual. There is so much they can change for round two. However obviously it’s up to you and if you don’t like your clinic or aren’t happy with their care that’s one thing but if it’s just that you were disappointed by the results I personally would give them at least the opportunity to amend things for round two, especially as you would have to redo all the tests etc at any new clinic which would be expensive x

Thank you Hidden , yes i was only disappointed with the results and the doctor wasn’t very informative they didn’t tell me how many follicles i had, they told me they only collected 2 eggs from all the follicles, during the scan i could see 4 follicles on my left ovary and the right ovary was hard to be seen so i wonder during the retrival if they tried to access it as well or they ignored it

Such a tough journey and decision 😪 I see you are young-ish. What is your diagnosis and what was your prognosis? It may make a big difference to what your expectations and experience may be. You said the clinic is dismissing your eggs as poor quality after 1 round, is that because you went into it with a poor prognosis (i.e. results were expected) or is your clinic a "mill" and showing you they aren't willing to tweak and treat you as a unique patient?

Hello Jumpppy ,my diagnosis was low egg reserve,i had few follicles so i expected few eggs but the quality was not sure, the clinic is willing to treat me for another round and they gave supplements to use first before the 2nd round

Hello!

I have been through IVF . Dont give up on the first try its always a trial and error to see how your body responds to the medication . This time round they are more informed about how you respond and will alter your protocol accordingly. You are alot closer than you were before❤️ hold in there!

Good luck and best wishes!

Alina
