I have recently had my first cycle of IVF which resulted in miscarriage at 6 weeks. I am 32 but have low ovarian reserve so we didn't have any to freeze. It was out only NHS round so we are now choosing which clinic to go for for our next few rounds. I am trying to optimise our chances as much as possible but I am in a head spin about all the different supplement options. Our clinic will not get involved in the conversation and just recommends folic acid and vitamin D. Does anyone have any good recommendations for supplements to help with eqq quality. I have heard of Impryl, coQ10 and inofolic to name a few but no idea which is best or safest etc? Any help would be much appreciated.
Wishing you all the best on your journeys 🤞🏽🤞🏽

Hi, a good quality pre conception multivitamin for both of you, I swapped out COQ10 for ubiqinol instead, vitamins E, VitaminC, NAC, PQQ, or you could just get a great antixidant. Check vitamin D before supplementing so you can work out how much you need. Inositol to regulate blood sugar levels. And DHA or omega 3 - good quality one. Recommended by my nutritionist. Hubby takes The same plus alpha lipoc acid and anything with lyopene. (You both could just have a teaspoon of tomato purée with some coconut oil, cheaper way to do it! Nutritionists says cant supplement a crappy diet so high protein, veggies and fruit, good fats and nuts and seeds... ladies on here might have some other insider tips. Did you have your Testosterone and DHEA levels tested. Could try that too and take DHEA if your levels need a little help to make better quality blastocysts... best of luck and baby dust
Ah thank you so much there is loads of information in there I will look into! I was considering seeing a nutritionist so I might go down that route too. I have no idea about my DHEA levels to be honest, the clinic have never said anything about them... 🤷♀️ I have requested my notes though so I will have a look! Really appreciate your reply thank you x
I take vitamin c, a pre pregnancy multi vitamin and ubiquinol. I’m thinking about trying inositol again too. My acupuncturist told me the Black ubiquinol are the best ones to take and I get mine from natures best or lamberts health. I’m sure there’s loads more I could be taking but hoping most things are covered with the pre conception vitamin as you could go on forever! X
Thanks so much for your reply! I think that's why I feel so overwhelmed as there are so many you could take. That was going to be my next question where does eberyone get their supplements from etc so I will have a look at those sites you mentioned. Wishing you all the best on your journey x
A good multivitamin, omega 3 supplements and ubiquinol are all pretty essential in my opinion. This cycle I'm also taking N-acetyl-cysteine but no idea yet if it'll make a difference xx
My nhs clinic was very much the same, didn't want to get involved with any further information about supplements, and not knowing at the time, we ended up having 2 very poor rounds. However after a lot of my own research and advice from the consultant we had much better round at our new clinic.
For me, I took vitd, prenatal vitamin by cytoplan, 300mg ubiquinol and myo inositol for egg quality. My husband took about 10 different supplements, but we do have Male factor so not sure if it applies with yourselves.
For me the "it starts with the egg" book was the best thing I could have bought. It gave me so much more knowledge on how lifestyle and diet also affects your eggs and also the supplements that it's a good place to start.
Thanks so much for your reply. I do think I'm going to go for the Ubiquonal ive heard a lot about that. Ah i literally just bought the Zita West Eat yourself Pregnant book today so I will add that one to my list!
Hi, supplements have really helped us so far. We take daily 600mg CoQ10 (both me and my husband), it's really important to take the recommended dose consistently for at least 3 months. We also both take 600mg NAC (N-acetyl-cysteine) daily, male / female multi-vitamin daily, and 1200mg fish oil. I take 2000 to 4000mg of Myo-Inisitol a day also (specifically Myo-Inisitol not the other forms is important). Lycopene, carnitine, and ALA are also good for sperm xx
Hi, Super useful message thanks so much! How did you know what combination to go for...did you see a nutritionist or just from lots of research? I keep doubting myself 🙈 xx
My reproductive endocrinologist recommended the multi-vitamin (inc vitamin d3), fish oil, CoQ10 and Myo-inisitol exactly I'm taking it (Myo-inisitol was primarily used for PCOS and now gaining research in general use for poor responders / egg quality) . She also recommended additional 400mg Vitamin E now that I remember for thickening lining (for female).
The NAC has some really positive emerging research for PCOS, egg quality and sperm parameters. So we decided to take those as well. There is definitely an overload of information out there, so research / second opinions is really important xx
