Hi all

I’ve recently been diagnosed with two blocked Fallopian tubes and told that my only success would be IVF, I wonder if anyone has any tips for us. I’m nearly 39 and my partner is 43 so we are aware that our age my not help us either

Thanks

Michelle

Hi

I was diagnosed in 2018 with bilateral blocked tubes. I'm now 35 years old.

I had a laparoscopy to clear, they cleared one side and not the other, but 6 months of trying after clearing, we still weren't successful in conception. So we are down the ivf route too.

We bought a 3 cycle 70% refund programme through access fertility. We are unfortunately have one cycle left, which most likely won't be until early next year as have to save for the cost of meds.

Are you able to have ivf on the NHS? If not, I would definitely go through the access programme, as its heavily discounted. Our 3 cycle package cost £9000, which is cheaper than 3 individual cycles.

Also you could start taking supplements to make sure you are in the best health possible. I take regular supplements and Ubiquinol too, to try and keep egg quality optimal ( this was reason for our last failure)

I hope this helps

Xx

Hi, sorry to hear this news Brassimc... must be a nasty shock😣 I agree with Charlie on both counts, supplements (I wasn't taking anything besides multivitamin and folic acid when I started and wish I'd been more prepared!) and Access. I felt Access were good value for money compared to paying usual clinic prices, definitely worth looking at. Hopefully you can get something on the NHS though 👍x

I'm taking coenzyme Q10 (guessing ubiquinol bit better though?), conception multivitamin, maca and royal jelly capsules. This cycle (natural) introduced a personalised mix of Chinese herbs from my acupuncturist xx

Hey I had this too you need to be careful of ectopics I had two resulting in both tubes being removed but I have also read stories people have got pregnant with blocked tubes too but definitely is a Hugh risk of ectopic pregnancy’s Ivf is you safest option it’s heartbreaking being told this and very annoying xx

I had two blocked tubes and was referred for IVF. I ended up getting pregnant naturally whilst waiting for nhs IVF to start, but sadly it ended in ectopic pregnancy at 8 weeks and they had to remove one of my tubes. Fast forward one year and I’m now 13 weeks pregnant via ICSI 💓 what helped me was mild IVF on a short protocol, fertility supplements to help egg quality (The Natural Health Practice Fertility programme with omega 3 and vit C), eating a healthy diet for both my partner and I, and reading ‘it starts with the egg’. We ended up with a top grade embryo after two previous low grade egg collections. I also used ubiquinol. I know every person is different and IVF should be tailored to you personally but hopefully this helps x

Thank you, that is very informative and congratulations how very exciting. Did you use ICSI for sperm quality reasons or was it just part of your IVF

Hey Brassimc, no worries! Thank you 😊 Yes, ICSI was used for slightly low sperm motility x

Hi Brassimc,

I am really sorry to hear your news, I have one blocked tube so not quite the same but hopefully this will help.

They could see fluid at an internal scan so I was told unless the tube was removed it could be harmful to any IVF. Might be worth considering if you can have the tubes removed as could cause a delay further down the line.

The other factor that influences my success is my low follicle count/ low ovarian reserve. With low numbers even with high stimulation I could only get 3/4 eggs max so unlikely any would be frozen. This meant that access wouldn't be as much of a bargain. Hope that isn't the case for you but finding out has meant it helps know the options available and chances of success.

Hope that helps a little bit and gives an idea of potential next steps.

Good luck with your route to IVF and hope you find a good clinic. Take care x

Hi in 2013 I was diagnosed with both tubes been blocked.

I had op so they removed my right tube and open and repaired the left one.

My doc told us that we can get pregnant naturally but after nearly a year of trying we went through first ivf (I was 34). Didn’t work so year after that we went through second ivf cycle and give us baby girl which is over 3years old now.

In past a year we decided to try for sibling so I done one more fresh and 3 frozen cycles...(5 embryos we lost) ...didn’t work.

My AMH is 6.7 and I’m 40 in November no frostie left so next month we back again for fresh cycle.

Did they check your AMH hun? Xx

Hi! Good luck on your journey! I was diagnosed with blocked tubes January 2017. I started ivf in the October after various surgeries. I was 37, my partner 43, and I’m Michelle too! I had 2 nhs rounds then a third using access fertility. It took a long time, 8 embryos to be transferred, but I’m now 2 weeks off 40 with a 7 month old son. I wish you a successful and quicker ivf journey! X

Hi, I’m sorry to hear this. When a woman has her fallopian tubes blocked, the sperm cannot reach the egg, and therefore fertilization cannot take place. The most obvious symptom of blocked fallopian tubes is therefore anovulation (no egg is released monthly). Depending on the cause, one treatment may work better as others. My dr at BTC explained that blocked fallopian tubes may be caused for the following reasons: STD infection, uterine infection caused by an abortion or miscarriage. History of a ruptured appendix. History of abdominal surgery, ectopic pregnancy, surgery involving the tubes, and endometriosis. The potential treatments for blocked fallopian tubes are laparoscopic surgery and IVF when repair surgery doesn’t work. Talk with your doctor for further advice. I hope he'll do his best to help.
