Hi there! Something has been playing on my mind? Is it common practise for you to be assigned a doctor before you start treatment and then that doctor look after you throughout, for egg collection and transfer? Or would it be normal for a doctor you haven’t met to do your egg retrieval and no mention of your doctor? Do they work as a panel? I didn’t realise until I was in theatre that a different doctor would be doing my egg collection and I was too nervous to say anything. Then he came into me after when I was still heavily sedated and I have no recollection of what he said and I wasn’t able to ask him anything. A nurse had told me before hand the doctor would wait until my husband was back to talk to us both as I would be too sedated to remember anything. This has niggled at me all weekend. Any experience would be appreciated. If this is common practise then that would be a relief to me.

Hi, yes this is common at my clinic, I very rarely see the same people and have dealt with three different consultants throughout treatments, I pay for private at a large NHS hospital and just get whoever is on shift at that time, they have loads of patients and always read through my notes and I’ve always felt I’ve had good treatment, ring the clinic and ask them to run through the information with you again as you were unsure what was said as you will still slightly sedated.
Hi.
I had my first consultation with a Dr last September. Since then I've had 1 egg collection, and 3 transfers. I've not spoken to that initial Dr since our first appointment!
Most of the contact I've had have been with nurses. In-between failed transfer 1 & 2 I spoke to 2 different Drs for follow up consultations.
Try not to worry, I'm sure it'll be absolutely fine and good luck!! Xx
Like the others say its totally normal - you won't have the same consultant x
Thank you so so much for putting my mind at ease. I just didn’t know the protocol for these things. I really appreciate the feedback. I will get the update tomorrow on our 5 fertilised eggs! And please god transfer on Wednesday or Thursday x x
I think it's because they cannot predict when their patients will go in for procedures - if your own doctor were to do all your retrievals and transfers they'd have to be on call 7 days a week!
Thank you so much for that 😊
We had an initial consultant to discuss any previous rounds or if your new your medical history. They are the ones who recommend what stims your on.
After that you don’t see them again, I’ve had several different consultants do egg collection and transfers.
The only time I saw my consultant again was if a complete round failed and we wanted a follow up appointment
That makes sense. Thank you. I hope your journey is going well now
We’re in a private clinic. My consultant did all my scans, my egg collection and all consultations. He would have done transfer too but we didn’t get that far.
Heya. Yes I had the same - ‘my’ doctor did all my initial consults, but then I had different doctors for different procedures. There was one doctor who did all my transfers, but two other doctors who did egg collections.... I think they all work as a team and it depends on scheduling and who’s free xx
