I need to make up an excuse for why I can't drink alcohol. I'm going out with some friends tomorrow afternoon for dinner. We are all WAGs of our partners being friends so I am not too close with them to reveal that I'm having IVF treatment yet I feel like I should go out to take my mind off the 2WW. In the past I've said I'm on antibiotics but I'd like to come up with something else.

Bad tooth infection. You couldn't get an appointment with the dentist and now you need a root canal. You're on metronidazole antibiotics which has an active ingredient in it that they give to alcoholics to make them violently ill. It's the only antibiotic you genuinely can't drink if you're taking. Haha, I always start with the tooth infection & antibiotics and give out the detail if pushed, questioned. Good to have it in your back pocket to get rid of the “just one drink” lot 😉

Ive recently been saying I have to drive somewhere super early tomorrow and paranoid about 'the morning after' - no one has questioned that so far.. enjoy your night out! x

It was really helpful for me doing my last cycle in January because I said I was doing dry January - there's also Sober October for Macmillan UK so you could always say you're doing a month off booze for that but decided to start early cause you have an event at the end of October! x

Antibiotics are always my go to, just say you’ve had a UTI or something an are on antibiotics xx

Stomach ulcers, indigestion, and chronic gut problems do actually stop me drinking so that’s always a good one as it provides a repeatable excuse if you’re in that position again. TBH just simple indigestion is a good enough reason-it’s blooming miserable and antacids don’t always help.

you’ve been suffering from migraines and the doctor has suggested you cut different things out of your diet to see what’s triggering it so you’re going easy on the alcohol and the caffeine to see whether if helps?

I ended up saying a had a really bad headache and usually get them when I'm due on (thought this would help support the bloated look) and had to take paracetamol and I don't want to mix with alcohol. I also said that I would drive so that they couldnt try and get me to drink during the evening. Thanks for your help. It was a lovely evening to help take my mind off things xx
