very low amh :(

Hello all, so this week I received the devastating news that I have a very low amh (0.15) for my age (37) and my gynecologist told me, I quote: "it is very unlikely you will ever conceive"... I am still under shock and don't really know what to do. I have taken an appointment with another gynecologist because I honestly really didn't like the way she dealt with the whole situation. Have any of you have had positive results with a very low amh level? In need of some hope and guidance here 😥 I have also taken an appointment with a homeopath.

Thanks to all!

I'm sorry you got such bad news ☹️ I recently received similar news and can't believe it either. I am also 37. Did your doctor give any reason as to why this was happening? My suggestion is to definitely look into natural remedies, they can be very helpful. I don't have any positive results to share really except that I did have a baby 2.5 years ago and my levels are extremely low (0.04) that I'm assuming they were pretty low a couple years ago too and I was able to have a healthy baby naturally.

Hi SunnyDream, thanks for the response. I hope I will get lucky as you did. No, she didn't give me any reason whatsoever and maybe there just isn't...genetics.

I'm so sorry to hear this ♥️ I think it would be worth seeing someone else and maybe repeating the test as it can go up and down apparently (dont want to give you false hope) but this is what I've heard/read. They told me mine was high then retested and its alot lower. One dr said it must be someone else's results (an error) and another said both are mine! Hope you're ok xxx

I am so sorry to hear this! I too received the same news at the age of 29 (I'm now 36) that at 3 my amh was low for my age and I would never conceive naturally and if I did it would be a miracle. It is heartbreaking but I can't stop trying. I've read on here where woman have low amh and have conceived. I have had 4 amh tests in total and my amh has gone up (take a look at my old posts). My amh rose from 2.3 up to 7.5 and according to NICE it doesn't change on a month to month basis or rise). Other woman have also reported a rise in their amh. So not too sure how reliable the test is. Are you going to try a cycle of ivf to see how your body responds? xx

Hey, thank you for the reply ♥️ I am encouraged by your amh going up! Yes, I am thinking about a cycle of IVF, but maybe it's not the best time for that. I'll wait till the end of this year, maybe I could increase my amh somehow...

And I will take a look through your old posts, thank you xx

Research DHEA for low Amh, the book it starts with the Egg details it. Very useful x

Katbaby19 I was just about to type the same advice!

My situation is slightly different but I've found following some of the advice in 'It starts with the egg', including taking DHEA, has made a real difference to the success/progress of my IVF.

I'm so sorry for the pain you're going through with this news, the whole infertility thing just feels so incredibly unfair sometimes.

My clinic specialises in women with AMH so low that other clinics won’t treat them - eg below 1 - do a search on natural and natural modified IVF and the clinic should pop up - they have clinics in Manchester Birmingham and London

was your treatment successful?

Yes I’m currently 13 weeks with twins from the cycle where I only got 2 eggs x

I would not rely on such a statement. I have almost zero amh and I fell pregnant twice naturally (but miscarried due to tyroid problems). As long as you have ovocyte you can fall pregnant.

Oh Gosh, thank you for giving me hope ♥️ I am so worried I won't be able to get pregnant naturally (we have been trying for 2 years already). Wish you good luck ♥️

Hello lovely, I’m so so sorry. I’ve been through the shock of a low AMH, at 38 it was 1.4. I was given 10% chance of getting to transfer stage and if we did transfer then 30% chance of it being a success. Not the best odds! It is definitely worth getting your AMH redone and having a second opinion. I’m sorry I don’t have a good news story for you as we had to give up on my eggs. Not only were they low in number but also quality. We had two IVF attempts on the NHS. First attempt we got one egg which failed to fertilise. Second attempt we got 3, only one fertilised and was transferred resulting in a negative. If your AMH is as reported then there is no easy way to deliver the news of the likelihood of conceiving with your own eggs is low. Though not impossible, some ladies with low AMH have decent quality but you can only really find this out by going through IVF & every cycle is different. It is not easy news for your consultant to deliver nor is it easy to hear. I took to bed for 3 days crying. I thought my world was ending. Try and be grateful that s/he was honest with you. You have options! For us it was donor eggs. But it took me a year to get my head around this idea. I did a lot of counselling. The grief was excruciating and i was very angry. If I can share anything with you is know that the emotional side of this is the hardest. So look after yourself, be kind and most importantly do not blame yourself. If you want to message me please do and I hope I’ve not said anything to upset you further. Sending the biggest hugs and positivity Xx

I am so sorry to hear about your long and hard road 😔 But as you say you still have options! There is always a way out.

I am at the beginning of our infertility route and maybe that's why my gynecologist's words shocked and upset me so much...I try to stay positive, although it is SO difficult sometimes. Emotional side is indeed the hardest... thank you so much for your reply and hope the situation will get better for both of us xx

It is such a shock. I was so angry with my consultant. On my first appointment she suggested donor eggs based on antral follicle count & hormone profile, this was before we even knew my AMH. I was no way prepared to hear that. I had to try with my own eggs, I had to give it a chance and I’ve no regrets of doing so. The consultant who first gave me this news has turned out to be amazing. I’ve stuck with her through the entire journey. Even when I moved from NHS to private, I continued to see her privately to do my scans. She has always been at the other end of an email when I’ve needed her, even yesterday when I had a small bleed. You will navigate this crazy journey your way and I wish you the very best of luck. I’m always here for you if you want to vent, brain storm etc. Big hugs Xx

It can be such a shock to receive this news.

I had one daughter naturally about 18 months before finding out that my AMH was very low. In I’m now pregnant again naturally. My first daughter is now 3.5 years old.

But I did have five miscarriages (four conceived naturally) and one round of ivf (conceived ending in fifth miscarriage) in between hence the investigations.

So your gynaecologist saying it’s unlikely you will ever conceive is wrong. Don’t give up!

Oh Gosh, I am getting so emotional sometimes 😥 You are the second person who writes me that there is a possibility to conceive naturally. You bring me hope ❤

Sending you and our daughters lots of love xx

I’m so sorry, it is always horrible to not hear what you are hoping for. If you don’t like the clinic and how they responded and treated you try somewhere else. Try taking DHEA and any other life style changes and potentially get retested. You may wish to have 1 attempt at IVF to see how you respond as you never know. My AMH was 7, but was never a good responder but seen plenty of people on here with a lower AMH respond well. If I hadn’t tried with my own eggs I wound have always wondered. Take your time and do what is right for you.

I'm sorry to hear this. Did your dr tell you a thing about mitochodrial donation?

As far as I know it's aimed for ladies witth low amh. Or those who've been through several ivf failures. Actually the point is not in the quantity of eggs but their quality, right. So MD is aimed at adding some healthy active mitochondria from donor's eggs into patient's eggs. Those will supply the eggs with needed energy for fertilization and further embryo development. Did your dr mention anything about that?

woohooh profile image
woohooh in reply tofreya-skylar

They didn’t mention nothing. Just say about my AMH low and I may be need few more cycle of ivf and the doctor she say she hope I can have 1,2 eggs retrive

fors5621 profile image
fors5621 in reply towoohooh

My clinic would cancel the round if only 1-2 eggs are retrieved.

BTW, mentioned mitochondrial donation is a good option to try out. Thus, it doesn't suit everyone, as usual. Still I know people from other boards who used donor's mitochondria and were successful. You could consult your dr on the point just for general outlook, yep? Here's a video ~ youtube.com/watch?v=k1kIYIs...

Hi, I had a baby 2 years ago and since lost 4 babies 2 due to ectopic pregnancies which I lost both tubes. During this situation I was told I have a low rating as well...salt in the wound big time. However that said, you only need 1 good egg to get pregnant so dobt give up. I had a egg collection done in oct as I turned 35 and was told it would only get worse but ended up with 10 eggs! Of which 4 were frozen and 4BB which I was told was an amazing result! I'm just doing my first FET cycle so of course I donr know the outcome but never give up hope! One of my best friends got pregnant at 46 naturally first baby was planned but as she said you only need one good eggxxx

I'm sorry to hear you received such devastating news. I received similar news at 37 last year, and it floored me. As others have mentioned there are clinics that specialise in IVF for ladies with low amh, i went along to one of their open evenings and they showed some very promising figures and the consultant was lovely (pm me for more details if you want the name of the clinic). We've opted for donor eggs at a uk private clinic in the end. There are options for you to have a family, although i know it felt so hopeless and far off when i first heard the news of a low amh xx

I am considering foreign clinics as well (mostly because of money issue), could you please tell me how much does IVF cost at your private clinic? thanks in advance xx

Hi dear. Hope you are well. I have been reading crazy much about new treatments for low amh. There is one promising treatment called PRP at the north cypress ivf clinic. It is still new but they will publish the study in Dec. 2020. But a lot of women were successful even over 40s. They added growth hormone to this treatment. Another one stem cell treatment but still needs more research. And mitochondria donation. I got headache from all that medical stuff. 🤕😅

I know too well what it means to have low amh. Donor egg and adoption is not an option for us.

I'm 36 and my amh is only 2.8. Or 0.4. So pretty low as well . My fertility doctor told me it's not impossible. It's a lot luck where the good egg is hiding and which month. As we have fewer healthy eggs with low amh it could take more time to fall pregnant. My doctors approach was to do 3 egg collections and fertilize them at the end all together once I have enough eggs.

Unfortunately my first egg collection only resulted in 2 immature eggs. The protokoll wasn't right for me. So as well the first one can fail as they don't know how your body will react to the meds only once you have tried it. It's really a lottery.

I got pregnant once at 35 naturally after 6 months of trying but resulted in a miss carriage.

To be honest I would not loose time with homeopathy. I would start right away with ivf and do acupuncture. Take dhea as well that could help. Good luck xx 💕

I am sorry to hear of your loss.. But as you know what doesn't kill you makes you stronger! Now you know how your body responds to medications which is so important in our situation. xx

By the way, was acupuncture helpful for you?

Butterfly83000 profile image
Butterfly83000 in reply towoohooh

I'm not sure if it was helpful. Looks like it wasn't. But I tried everything I could. 🤷🏻‍♀️

In Nov 19 at 39 mine was 0.46 from 37-38 I had 3 natural conceptions which all ended in mc at 12w after test in Dec I had a chemical then another in March nothing since. We were told we were better off still ttc naturally than ivf as we would be looking into donor and that was all that was said all other tests were fine except age.

Butterfly83000 profile image
Butterfly83000 in reply to

Don't give up on your own eggs. I'm not a fan of donor eggs. Try PRP treatment instead. I'm planning to do it. It's very new but who knows. It might work.

in reply toButterfly83000

We’re not trying anything now I think I’ve talked myself out of having a baby if I had no children it would be a different story I would try and pay for anything that would help but he’s not wanting to pursue treatment. I feel the time has passed I’ve moved on mentally and I’m in a much better place I was pretty low for a long time after miscarriages. Good luck with your journey x

I feel so depressed lately and I can't talk with anyone except my parents. So this forum really helped me. I wish you good luck as well dear, maybe it will happen naturally unexpected for you xx

Hey there. Last year my AMH was 0.174, AF count 7. Done 2 IVF cycles. 1st cycle, 7 follicles, 4 eggs retrieved (2 mature, 2 immature, one fertilized and stalled day 3). Did 2 rounds PRP injections and lots of supplements ( including DHEA and coq10) for 2nd cycle- 11! Follicles, AMH 0.333, 3 eggs retrieved, two mature, one fertilized and stalled day three. This doctor found adenomyosis and he presumes I have as endometriosis as well given my painful and heavy periods. Now trying lurpon depot shot x 3 months to shrink the tumors and try again. I've read conflicting info on DHEA and myoinositol for different causes of infertility. I think the key is to first discover WHY your AMH is so low and then find the correct treatment. I was taking DHEA for the second cycle and had fewer eggs in total. Of note: the 2nd cycle we didn't have to utilize ICSI like the 1st bc the male factor was corrected simply through diet and supplementation!!! Hoping we can find what I need as well. Do you have PCOS or endometriosis symptoms? I'm reading a good book right now xalled "The Hormone Cure" by Sarah Gottfried. Worth a glance. Keep your chin up. <3
