Could af arrive after embryo transfer???

Hi girls, I'm 5 days post blastocyst transfer and could bet my life on the fact that that period is on way within next 2 days. I have the cramps, tiny bit of spotting etc but surely would cyclogest pessaries not prevent this regardless of whether I am pregnant or not !!? Very confused and any info would be so much appreciated. Thank you ๐Ÿ˜Š

Hi, pessaries do not prevent your period and it can arrive before test day even. But spotting and cramping are also signs of implantation so could be good news x

For most people, the pessaries will prevent your period from starting. Normally you donโ€™t bleed until after youโ€™ve stopped medication.

Spotting can be a good sign though as it might be from implantation, same with the cramps so try not to worry (I know thatโ€™s impossible though!).

If your bleeding gets any heavier than call your clinic as it might mean you need more progesterone xx

Thank you so much for your reply. Yes my common sense is telling me that the progesterone would surely keep the lining in tact so I will keep an eye on the next few days xxxx

Yes it will! Iโ€™ve done four cycles and the unsuccessful ones, I didnโ€™t bleed until after my test day and stopping medication. Wishing you all the luck in the world for yours xx

You can defo bleed on progesterone from implantation, period or actually irritation from the pessaries. For some it can stop periods from coming but not everyone. Cramping And spotting can be a good sign though and I have seen many people on here say they had this with a positive result xx

Cramping and spotting is really common after transfer and usually a good sign. You obviously know your body, but hoping thsy it's good news.xx

Unfortunately thereโ€™s really no way of knowing as early pregnancy and period symptoms can be so similar. One of my friends recently had an IVF cycle & sadly came on her period before test day so itโ€™s definitely possible.

Having said that, Iโ€™m pretty sure I had the usual cramping pain in the run up to my test date and was lucky enough to be pregnant so it really is a waiting game Iโ€™m afraid! Wishing you luck xx

Like many others, my test date was Sunday 12th July, I started spotting on the Thursday/Friday before test, then I had a bleed - I thought the pessaries stopped a period but they donโ€™t unfortunately

Iโ€™ve had both, I've come on my period with an unsuccessful round on day 7 whilst on pessaries, but I've also bled before test day which lasted 11 weeks of my pregnancy on a successful round, then I've also not bled on unsuccessful rounds, Ive had 2 successful rounds of IVF now both i have felt like i was coming on my period on and off, its so hard to tell fingers crossed for you xx

I've had both...first time no bleeding with pessaries only after test day I started bleeding but didn't work...second and third bled out even with pessaries before test day didn't work...fourth time had terrible cramping woke me up...I thought oh no AF coming...I had slept on my left...no bleeding...BFP :) Pessaries generally should stop AF as they're helping to support lining which AF breaks down... but they don't always...cramping can be with both pessaries and AF, very similar... let's hope it's good news for you xxx

So even though I had a miscarriage I couldโ€™ve sworn my period was coming . Same exact symptoms but I would have cramps then they would go away then it would come back randomly but the whole time I was pregnant but unfortunately miscarried but it still gave me hope after 8 failed ivfs. So donโ€™t go with those feelings! Good luck!

Hi there,

For my first round of IVF AF came 5 days before beta was scheduled. I was cramping and everything like with a normal period. For my second round, I had literally the same exact symptoms, so I was once again devastated....but then the bleeding never came. I got my bfp, and cramped on & off until roughly 16 weeks. I was on progesterone through both cycles. I hope this helps, and that you get your wonderful baby soon โค๏ธ

I was adamant AF was coming and told my partner thinking it was genuinely over. I also ended up having the tiniest amount of spotting which confirmed it.

We tested a day early to get it over and done with and it was positive - AF never came :)

Good Luck!!
