anyone pregnant after an ectopic?

hi, I had my bfp on Monday following fet two weeks before. Sadly, we had an ectopic earlier in the year and so I’m now petrified for this pregnancy. Is there anyone here who has had a similar journey? The clinic were really pleased with my bloods but I’m so scared I can’t be happy yet. I have some light cramping, particularly on the side of the ectopic. I have no bleeding. Any advice welcome!

Hi Cec. You could try speaking to an Early Pregnancy Unit and see what’s they advise. I can fully understand your fear, but hopefully all be ok this time. Thinking of you. Diane

Congrats Cec1982 on the BPF! Exciting news :)

I've had ectopics too so get how scary it can be in the first few weeks. Have the clinic you are with or your local Early Pregnancy Unit (EPU) booked you in for a 5/6 week scan yet? That's where they can check it's in the right place. Sadly I have had two ectopics, one I had no idea about (probs like you) until it ruptured so I had to have one of my tubes out, the 2nd time I was more in tune with my body and made sure I got a scan at my EPU at 5/6 weeks.

Not to scare you but unfortunately you are more likely to have an ectopic once you've already had one, however IVF brings the percentage down from thirty something % to 2% which is amazing!! So as you've had a FET hopefully your chances are suuuuper slim to have another one.

Hopefully you'll be fine, you are right to be guarded though if you've only had your bloods taken so far. If I were you I would deffo get an early scan to check it is in the right place, and if you've had an ectopic before you'll be able to go to your local EPU and self-refer because of your history, if your clinic won't give you one.

Good luck!!

P.s tell me to shut up if you know all this haha

Thank you so much for the reply!

I have my viability scan booked in for Monday week so not too long to go although I know it’s going to be a rocky wait!

I am so sorry you have been ectopic twice - have you gone on to have a baby (if you don’t mind me asking)?

I go from being secure in the knowledge we had a FET which reduced the chance of another ectopic (as you said), to haunting myself with unknown twinges etc.

Think I just have to hold on to hope as that’s all we have!!

Thanks again x

Oh that's good - keep us posted on how you get on! Fingers crossed all will be okay. Let yourself feel all the feels as they are valid - you have gone through something before so it won't be a straight forward in your head.

No sadly not yet, I've had 4 early miscarriages too so not had the best luck. Wasted a year of IVF figuring out meds as I kept reacting to them, didn't do a fresh transfer, first FET was another early miscarriage (others were natural) and 2nd FET just didn't work. Very frustrating! Hoping my time will be soon though.

Yeah the hope is all we have, sometimes you have lots and other times you don't. Just know that everyone on here has your back whenever you feel down, that's what I love about it!

Just keep an eye out for any BIG pains, like super bad cramps (as I'm sure you know). My second one I had no symptoms as I caught it super early but my first I had super bad cramps on one side (deffo not twinges), I was dizzy and sweating loads so you know when something is really wrong. Hopefully your twinges are just your babba growing :) x

Hi, sorry for your experience. But I can completely understand the worry you feel. I had a heterotrophic twin pregnancy in 2014. Resulting in multiple rupture and right side salpingectomy at 16 weeks as the ectopic had been missed. I conceived naturally again unexpectedly around 3 months later. With no initial issues or complications. Unfortunately I went into preterm labour and DC was stillborn at 30+ weeks the following year. Fell pregnant naturally again around 5 months later & DC was born the following year.

I had 2 other miscarriages following my live birth and I am now a year into my IVF journey due to male factor. Hope this gives you some hope as it is very possible. I like you was worried first about whether I’d conceive again as I only had one tube. And when I did, more worry it would again be in an unknown location.

I know this thread is 5 months old. But for future reference you can always self refer to EPU for an early reassurance scan following an ectopic. x
