How much vit d3?

Hi ladies, I've just listened to one of zita west's insta lives with her ivf prep plan, and the topic of vitd3 came up. After our first failed icsi I upped my vitd3 supplement, I take 1200iu that's in my pregnaplan tablet and then an extra 25p0 iu so 3700iu daily total. We had our 2nd failed icsi in November and I didnt stop taking it because i was due to start in March before it all got cancelled. I've now been on the higher dosage for 8 months, and today Zita said that too much vit for too long a period can be toxic, she recommended 2000 to 2500iu daily in a few months prior but not longer. Now I'm stressing a bit that I've taken too much but if I stop the extra will the 1200iu be enough. I have emailed her to ask, and also might call the clinic as they've never specifically asked about how much just that if I was taking it as a supplement.

Would love to know what you ladies advise and how much you are on?

Also cant get tested for levels in these circumstances xx

You can take too much vitamin D so be careful. I took the vitamin D spray each day it was 1000 you must take champion with food for it to be absorbed. Maybe try and get a blood test to check your levels?

Thanks for your reply, was the spray as well as what was in your pregnancy vitamin? The doctors wont do the test, maybe the clinic will. Having researched it, the safe limit daily is 4000iu so at least I've not been overdoing it, but just hars to know what do adjust to xx

Yes it was in addition to the pregnancy vitamin. I remember asking my Dr because I was confused that the units were different. In the end my clinic did it and I just paid for it. I love my clinic, they'll let me get whatever I wasn't treated as often as I want but of course I have to pay for it...which in the scheme of things is a drop in the ocean.

We just take Impryl and nothing else. Impryl says not to take any other Extra vitamins so it can work optimally apparently?!

I don’t think I’ve ever had a problem with vitamin D so I’ve never taken extra and the cost of Impryl plus the fact it says not to take extra makes me not want to

Could you not take one or the other? Surely some is better than none? Have you been told your vitamin D is low?x

Hiya, yes I did read you shouldn't take anything else alongside impryl. From the start of our "journey" weve gone from 2 tablets a day, to about 8 for hubby and 6 for me through research weve done ourselves as our last clinic was so rubbish and behind the times.

Maintaining a higher vitd3 level with fertility and pregnancy is advised than normal levels, meant to help with the lining and implantation, and help with recurrent miscarriage.

I think I will bring the dosage down after being on it for so long. Hope you're doing ok, and hoping it wont be long for your treatment xx

It’s so difficult when you get differing advice. I’m avoiding everything else now simply because of what the Impryl said - whether that’s right or not I’ve no idea but I don’t want to pay all that if taking something else means it doesn’t work as well. God it’s a mi Enfield isn’t it!! No wonder we’re all neurotic!! Xx

From late March until September, you can get enough vit D through your skin by taking 3 x 20min walks per week with bare arms or legs (no sunscreen) between 10am-3pm and this is the most natural, body friendly way to get it. Getting it this way makes it impossible to overdose.

Failing that, d-lux vit d spray is great, you spray on the inside of your cheek, it tastes like mouth freshener and because it bypasses the digestive system the body metabolizes it more efficiently.

Hi

You can take even more vitamin d and nothing bad will happen to you but I would suggest to take it always with vitamin k2 (mk7) if your vitamin D dosage is more than 4000 UI/day.vitamin D dosage ab 1000-2000 is a maintenance dosage(usually) and we should always take it after fatty food

Hi during my consultation after my miscarriage I was advised by the consultant not to take more than 800 vitamin D dosage. Even though i had alteady purchased the 2500 after my own research. So I try to eat the tablet sparingly because I thought no point buying more tablets xx

Read the book it starts with the egg for optimum levels. P78 goes through the optimum levels:

At least 40ng/mL (100nmol/L)

I used medichecks to test my vitamin D and it took raising my supplements to 5000iu of vitamin D3 to get my levels just above 100.

U really need to get your levels tested and the adjust accordingly. Medichecks do the home finger pricked kits for the vitamin D and it doesn’t take too long to process.

I fell pregnant naturally in my Feb cycle after a year of failed ivfs, I did have excision of endo with a specialist surgeon in January then it worked but I had all my levels optimal too by reading it starts with the egg. I had also taken dhea and melatonin before my nov/Dec ivf cycle which I think could have helped with egg quality that led to the natural bfp

Good luck

Thanks for your reply laura, and many congratulations to you!!

It starts with the egg book is where I got my info from, it said if you can get tested then average is 4000iu daily, which is why I upped to 3700, but now I'm spending more time in the sun I think I will reduce it. Hoping to start medication in june so havent got time for checking levels etc, its just trying to get the right balance! Thank you xx

That’s true now that we r in spring summer u may need less :-) xx

Hi italy. When i got tested at the start of my icsi journey the clinic said it was a bit low and told me to get an extra supplement on top of the pregnacare multivitamin. Im taking 1000iu. Total that is 1400 iu. Havent tested after that but figured should be enough (depends on your skin as well as i need a bit more since im tanned).

I figured if my levels were low and consultant really needed to put me on high dosage he would have told me right. X

Yes he definitely would have told you if you needed to be on more. That sounds like a good daily level, I think I will reduce mine down, thanks for replying xx
