Hello all, I have a quick question does anyone hear know of a woman without a thyroid( due to total thyroidectomy) who after drug supplementation for the Thyroid hormones has go on to conceive and have a successful pregnancy. I wonder if am just wasting money going for ivf as I have no thyroid now, so so disheartened right now, any feedback will be highly appreciated, thanks

Hey, thanks so much for your response Florencenightnigale, I have had two failed IVFs and wanted to go for frozen transfer this month but now the clinic thinks that my thyroid hormones are off, so basically I have been going on with IVF with wrong thyroid value and they seem to just gave noticed- so pissed with them, anyway will get them checked and controlled before anymore procedure.

Thyroid checks are usually done at the start if IVF, especially.if you havent even got one..I'm gobsmacked..you have a right to be pissed. I was told TSH has to be under 2.5 in treatment and pregnancy. Your GP should be able to check this. I hope you can get sorted.xx

Hey Scbell, I rememeber a lady on here who not so long ago had a baby and had no thyroid.... Kitcat12 , however she had IVF. You can have a look at her profile, hope it helps and gives you hope. Your thryoid would need to be monitored closely but it can be done. Have you got a endocrinologist or could you get a referral?xx

That's me 👍🏼 Happy to chat although my situation is slightly different as I was born with no thyroid. My struggles with trying to conceive naturally were unrelated to my thyroid condition and my condition had been well managed until I got pregnant through IVF and then things got a bit tricky. However, with close monitoring throughout my pregnancy things were relatively smooth and my little boy is now 15 weeks old. Message me if you want to chat more about managing with no thyroid and best of luck to you with your TTC journey x

Hi Scbell. Yes, it is possible providing your hormones are balanced. You will be having thyroxin in tablet form now, so hopefully it should be possible. Diane

Hi DianeArnold, thanks so much for your response, it makes me so much hopeful for the future since others in my shoes have come out successful, i will seek to see that my hormones are proper controlled this time before s anymore procedure, wishing you the very best in this process

Hi scbell. I got hypothyroidism and im on 75 levothyroxine still my levels jump between 1 and 2.9 (last time checked) which technically should be under 2.5 for conceiving so this means all the years my gp said i was fine because my levels were 5 feel wasted too so i get the frustration. I did not had success yet and i know our journeys are different but in the past I researched alot around this and read alot abt women conceiving with thyroid issues or no thyroid at all.

On how much medication are you? My sis had her thyroid removed and she isnt ttc’ing but is on around 150 mg. everyone is different though so please have them checked regularly. x

Hello Mimisami, thanks for writing and yes we have different journies, its unfortunate that the professionals are not thet professional after all, despite how much money is paid. Am usually on 250mg of levaxine and my Tsh is usually at 0.1, just learnt that the clinic says it should be between 0.4to 3.7 in order to undergo ivf but for some reason I under went it twice with the low value of 0.1- anyway will follow that up. Hope and pray that it will all soon be resolved and get my hormones where they should be for a successful pregnancy, I wish the very best for you in this process too.

My TSH was 0.1 throughout pregnancy, my endocrinologist said he preferred for me to be over treated rather than under. Although I have to say 250mg seems incredibly high dosage!

Congratulations congratulations Kitcat12 it is really great to learn that this is possible gives me so so much hope, thanks so much for writing and yes I would love to chat. As for the high dose of levaxine- it's to ensure that my TSH remains as low as possible as I has thyroid cancer and the doctors say that high TSH values can feed any ( if there are) remaining cancer cells. But hope that they can lessen the dose for awhile to facilitate better chances for conception it's a risk am willing to take

I'm so sorry to hear you've had cancer, that must have been very scary! From my experience, once you get your hormone levels under control and your dose levels out, I can't see a reason why you wouldn't be able to have a fairly normal pregnancy. It's really important that your levels are right though, I had a miscarriage in 2018 and I'm convinced it's because my TSH was all over the place. I had it much more closely monitored in the early days of my pregnancy with my little boy x

Thanks so much Kitkat12 for the concern, yes cancer is scary but if it doesn't kill one then it only makes them stronger :-) , and yes I totally agree that I need to have my thyroid levels fixed so I can proceed, it's just unfortunate that the doctors missed it/ ignored it, but this time am Awoke:-) thanks so much for your vote of confidence, wishing you all the very best.

Congratulations Pinkpaw2 on your pregnancy, yes if your thyroid is underactive then you need your levothyroxine supplementation both for you and for the fetus, wishing you a great and wonderful pregnancy experience and thanks so much for writing too.

Yes you can, i had a total thyroidectomy 12 years ago (22 years old then), and i got pregnant very easily and naturally 3 years ago. Once you get pregnant, you must increase your t4 dose and You also

Must check your tsh levels every 3 weeks.
