Getting pregnant with fibroids

I am reaching out for some advices, for any successful stories for getting pregnant naturally or with FET with fibroids.

I am 42 almost 43 now . I had previous treatment with zoladex and operation . In a couple of months later we did first FET, that was unsuccessful. At this point new pair of fibroids did grow.

now 3 months later they have grown even more, and I am lost whether we continue with FET or need fibroids treatment.

if someone can recommend a doctor in UK that is dealing with similar issues.

I just don want to have up on a baby.

thank you in advance !

If your fibroids are not touching your cavity you will be fine...

Hi Iva24, I have been treating fibroids too long, now I am 45 years old and I am struggling with the quality of oocytes for IVF. My story is not successful, but I have one thing that I would do better looking back - I would freeze the oocytes or embryos and then would do full treatment for the fibroids.

I keep my fingers crossed for you!

I have had large fibroids for years and my first clinic said they weren’t a problem. I moved to a new clinic after six rounds and the new clinic refused to do a transfer until my fibroids were removed. It turned out I had 42! I had an open myomectomy under a surgeon called Ertan Saridogan who practises at the Portland Hospital in London. I then did an FET about 8 months later and my daughter is 13 months. Prior to that I had had six miscarriages and three failed rounds. I personally would get them treated x

Hello! When did you have the surgery with Dr Saridogan? I was thinking of removing mine with him too but I didnt know he does open surgeries too, I thought only key hole

He did an open myectomy on me in 2022. He did keyhole, open and also other things like stopping the blood flow to them (can’t remember what that was called). I went with open after an MRI suggested I had more than 10 fibroids. I had had an open myomectomy previously about 20 years ago but he was fine about doing it a second time. I did get it covered on my health insurance which was a bonus as he referenced heavy bleeding rather than fertility x

Hi, I think it depends on where the fibroid is. Provided it won't affect where the baby will implant and grow, them you are good to go.

I had 3 fibroads and when I went for the initial consultation, they said they will go ahead as it js not in the cavity. So I had my first IVF and was successful, the 2 implanted, hhough lost one ag some.point. but I went ahead to have a healthy pregnancy. Though had the baby at 2o weeks due to covid in 2020.

After my first IIVF,ni went ahead to have a success natural pregnancy after 6 months and after that I had a mother successful pregnancy, my daughter is 6 weeks d today and I just turned 42. So it's possible.

This is my story and I wish you all the best in whatever decisions you make. xx

How big were they?

Hi, can't really say the size, buy it was not that very big they say. And as when I got pregnant it became smaller, meaning it started shrinking. It's still there though after 3 kids but smaller than it was. xx

It started shrinking when you got pregnant? Wow ! I thought they grow bigger in pregnancy !

Yea, was just lucky. You know it’s either the fibroid will not give room to the baby or the baby will not give room for the fibroid to grow more. It all depends on the location and size of fibroid before pregnancy I think.

Did you have pain when it shrunk?

No. Not at all. I even got pregnant again 5 months after my first CS and I did not experience any pain and I had all my 3 with CS. Hope this helps xx

hi Iva24 , I had multiple rounds of unsuccessful IVF and 2 miscarriages. I had fibroids but was told they weren’t interrupting the cavity so better to not add trauma of surgery . After years of trying , our doctor suggested we create some frozen embryos and then remove the fibroids . I was able to do this through keyhole and I also used Dr Saridogan - my first transfer after surgery was successful and my son is now 13 months old. I don’t know if it’s coincidence or the fibroid removal was the difference . I think it’s worth a shot but absolutely bank some embryos before doing it would be my humble advice . Good luck x
