Hi, I'm on cycle 1 of Letrozole. I would like to know what the standard protocol is for other people please in terms of monitoring using internal ultrasound scans, or where I can find out the NICE guidelines if they exist?
My fertility clinic only seemed to offer one ultrasound scan at around day 12. I had this and they saw 2 follicles maturing. From this they packed me off and gave me a prediction on ovulation for us to start trying. Is this normal? Or should they offer further scans to check the how follicle sizes are maturing? From what I have read other people have many more scans.
They then said that they would send me off to have the rest of the letrozole on my own without any scans at all for 3 months. From what I can gather through reading every time could be different and you can have a different amount of eggs maturing. Can I ask if this is also normal please?

Hi ammieg. I think you will find that it is the "norm" to scan around Day 12 when on Letrozole or Clomid. The fact that you have shown 2 maturing follicles, I doubt they wouldn't consider further scanning. That would be offered if no development had occurred. However, remember that the NICE guidelines, are "guidelines" and we are still bound by our CCG's recommendations. From what you have described the drug seems to be doing it's job. Hope all ends well for you. Diane
Yes this is normal. I took letrozole for 5 months without any scans. Unfortunately it didnt work for me. Hope it works out for you. But i must warn u of the arthralgia, u may have pain of certain joints, i had pain at the bottom of my feet and couldnt even stand for half an hour at a stretch.
