Letrozole not working?

Hi all, hope everyone is doing OK during this horrendous journey. wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation and can ease my mind....

I was on clomid last time I posted here and mentioned that my lining was too thin so they switched me to letrozole.

Gone for my scan today and it looks like my lining has improved but she can't see any mature follicles in one ovary and the other has a large black area which looks like a follicle but they are saying its much bigger than it should for day 12 of my cycle and that it may be a cyst instead?

Does this mean the letrozole hasn't done what it should and I won't ovulate? Could it be a follicle that's just matured really quickly? Can you even get pregnant with a large follicle?

Feeling very confused and overwhelmed today. Also been in pain on my left side for years and it's getting worse. They want me to have a laproscopy which I'm a bit terrified of but want to get to the bottom of the pain. Worried it could be endo

Literally just typing as I'm thinking here so apologies for the ramble!

Hi Yuki. So sorry to hear this is happening, but I feel you need to get to the bottom of the pain. Once diagnosed, hopefully you will be able to move onto some successful treatment. Let’s hope it’s not too long before you can get going again. Good luck. Diane

Thanks Diane. Yeah I agree, I've totally freaked myself out about the laproscopy but you're right, I can't keep having this pain and it could be something that's stopping me falling pregnant. Feeling very deflated with it all 😞 x

Hello. I’m so sorry it’s so stressful. I have been there as I’ve had a number of letrozole cycles with scans and it’s such a nerve wrecking experience going to scans and hoping for the right response when your body doesn’t always or what it should!

What I can share from experience that may be reassuring

- I usually ovulate around day 14 and when I took letrozole I responded quickly and had a dominant follicle as soon as day 10-12 of my cycle so that large mass on your scan may well be a dominant follicle! Maybe you will have other signs of ovulation soon too?

-I had one cycle where there was no dominant follicle as usual on day 10-12 and I had to wait a week until one showed up on the scan. It made me so anxious but was worth the wait as I got pregnant that cycle but sadly it ended. So in your case it could be that it’s taking longer for a dominant follicle to grow.

I hope you get answers on whether it’s a cyst soon. I get how anxious you must feel because of course you want answers right now and have to wait! I recently had a hysteroscopy (not as invasive as a laparoscopy) but I felt it was a positive step as it helped to check whether there were potential fertility issues which would give me something to treat and improve my chances, if it were the case.

Sending lots of luck x

Thanks so much for this, youve eased my mind slightly that this might not be just another wasted cycle. Now that you mention it I have had some other signs of ovulation that I kind of just ignored as I thought it was way too early - I normally ovulate day 16-18.

Nobody has even mentioned a hysteroscopy to me, they seem to want to go straight for laproscopy. Maybe because of this pain Ive been having?

You are right though, at least if you find a problem it give something to treat and it feels like things are happening. Hoping and praying each month just for your period to show up again is soul destroying

Wishing you the best of luck too xx

I did not have laparoscopy in the end I had trans vaginal removal of fibroid mass

They had wanted to do hysteroscopy which was like a camera to have a good look round they could do that with you.

I think the problem is theyre not entirely sure its a gynaecological problem or bowel. Apparently with a laparoscopy they can have a good look around?

I will definitely ask about the hysteroscopy though. Are you awake for the procedure?

Can I ask, did you have pain with the fibroid?

Thanks x
